6/20/01: Karl Rove meets with terror suspect Sami al-Arian at White House

"George and Laura Bush with Sami Amin Al-Arian, who is charged with 50 counts of terrorism. Al-Arian even went to a White House briefing with Karl Rove."

Sami Al-Arian was not just a problem for the University of South Florida – he was able to form connections at the highest levels of George W. Bush’s presidential campaign and the Bush Administration. In fact, while Al-Arian was under investigation by the FBI, he was at the same time “actively courted” by the White House and Bush campaign.

Al-Arian Campaigned For Bush in 2000. Al-Arian campaigned in Florida with Bush during the 2000 presidential campaign and had his photo taken with Bush at the Florida Strawberry festival in Plant City. Bush gave Al-Arian’s son, Abdullah, the nickname, “Big Dude.” Al-Arian later boasted that he had delivered the margin of victory in Florida to Bush. According to Newsweek, “Al-Arian campaigned vigorously for the Republicans at mosques and Islamic cultural centers. ‘We certainly delivered him many more than 537 votes,’ he says, referring to Bush's margin of victory in the election." Al-Arian said later, “I wanted to talk about the last elections because I think I personally played a big role in electing Bush.” (Newsweek, 7/16/01; NBC Today Show, 2/24/03)

Al-Arian Met With Karl Rove at the White House In 2001. On June 20, 2001, Al-Arian was briefed on Bush's faith-based agenda and other issues by Rove and others in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is adjacent to the White House. Al-Arian passed the required security check, which he said gave him confidence that he was no longer suspected of being a terrorist supporter or sympathizer. It was Al-Arian’s fourth trip to the White House—the first three had been during the Clinton Administration. Al-Arian said he sat in the front row. (Washington Post, 2/22/03, 7/28/02)

National Review: Bush White House “Actively Courted” Al-Arian. Conservative columnist David Frum wrote in the National Review, “Here now is where the story gets painful for us Bush Republicans. Not only were the al-Arians not avoided by the Bush White House - they were actively courted.” Frum wrote again later, “ne thing in this story still remains curiously unclear: How was it that Sami al-Arian and his family were allowed to get as close as they did to Candidate and then President George W. Bush?” (David Frum, National Review Online, 2/21/03, 3/3/03)

1. The sad part is he won the election for Bush and then Bush fucks him
40,000 muslims voted for Bush over Gore. While IMHO Gore did win Florida, those 40,000 really hurt....
