Saving Private Lyin'

The Republican Party is standing on the edge of a cliff. George W. Bush and Karl Rove are already dangling over the edge, with Congressional Republicans holding onto the other end of the rope. If they continue to hang on, Republicans are will face stunning reversals both in Washington and in state legislatures around the country.

Still they hang on. It's hard to say if their fealty is out of loyalty or fear or ignorance, but as a partisan Democrat, I'm praying that they will continue to support the Bush Administration and make excuses for Iraq, the lousy economy, and the lack of health care.

One year from now, the 2006 campaign will be in full swing. Assuming that the situation in Iraq doesn't deteriorate any further, that means more than 900 U.S. troops will be dead. Unless the economy picks up, millions of Americans will have lost their jobs and millions more will have lost their healthcare. Tens of millions of Baby Boomers will be one year closer to retirement and Social Security benefits. And the federal government will be another trillion dollars in debt.

The Bush Administration has been tragically and cataclysmically wrong in its policy initiatives. Their every plan has gone awry, and I would say "comically awry" were not thousands of Americans dying as a result. Yet elected Republicans make excuses, try to make the situation sound less desperate than it is. Good for them. Chin up, and all that.

Stand by your man.

still support them. Just think, HOW F-ING BAD DOES IT HAVE TO GET before we vote the scandrals out. What will it take? It is so sad that it has to be worse than it is now for amreicans to see. Will they ever see the truth with the corporate control of every aspect of government?

Have you ever stopped to marvel at how well-informed we are here at DU? We knew about the phoney yellow-cake, the Plame outing, the Gannon-Guckert fiasco, and a host of other Bush Scandals before the rest of the world. If you depend on your news from Fox, chances are you still don't know anything about these issues.

When somebody in the media spells out that Bush intended all along to start a war with Iraq ("Fuck Saddam, we're taking him out") and that the Administration knowingly "juiced" the intelligence data to support their claim of an imminent threat, and that they never seriously attempted a diplomatic resolution to the problem, people are going to be pissed. And every flag-draped casket returning to the United States is going to be a reminder that they were lied to.

They'll come around.

That's when The People are going to get really nervous.

...there is no rope to hold onto. There may be some twigs or weeds, but none of these are well secured. The whole corrupt bunch are going over the edge together!!!!

What will Bush* have to do ...what blunder, egotistical action, or reavealing moment...will have to happen to overcome the inertia of Republican pride?

At what point will Repubs say "Enough is enough?"

There are still many things on the table that need to be addressed, not the least of which is ensuring there are paper trails for the electronic voting devices. I firmly believe that most of the bush backing members of Congress have been placed there because the Polls have not been watched and votes have been miscounted to place these people in power.

The ineptness of many elected officials is glaring, and that goes for some D's as well as many R's. The real threat to this nation is the neo-con agenda. The only means we have to fight this horror is the ballot. Sitting at a PC helps to an extent, but the real way to get things done is with footwork and sweat. It is hard work to kick an incumbent out of a Congressional seat, and each of us should be committed to getting the vote out, and demanding accountability of electronic voting devices. The citizens of this nation still have a say, but we will lose that, D's and R's together, if we don't quash the neo-con agenda.

bush has set the bar so low, a small head of cabbage could now act a s president....I'm sure we could do better than that.
