Cellphones set off the bombs in London ?
Just like they set off the IEDs in Baghdad? Hmmmm. ... They are learning well in their new terrorist traing camp - against the best military in the world. That is not good. That does not bode well in the war on Terror.

I heard that tidbit on some radio news yesterday evening. If that is true, one person could have set off all four bombs? We cannot assume it was 4 people with one bomb each. But the way it was done is straight from the battlefield of Baghdad. That the way they are blowing up the GIs nowadays....with a simple call from a cellphone? Maybe Ted Kysinski was correct about "technology?

7. from what I heard on the news, I thought parts of timing
devices had been found?? Would the explosions occuring while the trains were in transit rather than at a crowded platform suggest perhaps the timing wasn't optimal if maximum carnage was the aim?

12. Phones don't work in tunnels
"Blair confirmed that police considered shutting down London's cell phone networks Thursday as the explosions were reported, apparently out of concern the bombs were detonated by mobile phone, but ruled it out.

"We did consider it. We do have that ability," Blair said. But he said commanders considered how that would affect public confidence, and decided not to do it.

Moreover, investigators doubt that cell phones - used in the Madrid train attacks a year ago - were used to detonate the bombs in the Underground because the phones often don't work in the system's deep tunnels, London's transport police said Friday."

4. The new improved CIA has said that the war in Iraq is a training
ground for terrorists world wide, that they are going there to learn tactics and techniques and then returning home to pass the knowledge on to others.

The term Improvised Explosive Device has become a misnomer as the weapons become more and more sophisticated. Pagers make excellent detonators as do cell phones. The same techniques used in Iraq are now showing up in Afghanistan and other places, ie, London.

But don't worry, I have it on good authority that the world is safer now that Saddam is not it power . . .

15. Anything that keeps time can be used as a detonator. In 'Nam
the Cong would take wrist watches and remove the crystal, break off the minute hand and use the hour hand to make contact between two wires. Crude and not all that reliable, but enough to get the job done often enough.

Buy why do that when you've got funding from the Saudis . . .

5. cell phones weren't working.
what's up with that? all morning yesterday there were numerous reports about cellphones not working and long lines at the few existing payphones.....was this just because they were overwhelmed with emergency calls?

9. Probably an overload of base stations. It happens every time
there is a major emergency. Land lines also become very unreliable because of the traffic. Ever get the message "your call cannot be completed at this time, all lines are busy"?

14. any highschool kid could use cellphones as trigger
this isn't new.
no advanced knowledge required in bombmaking past maybe highschool chemistry and physics (and a twisted mind)
the cia even went so far as to produce comic style "terror manuals" which suggests to me they had trouble recruiting anyone with a highschool education to do their dirty work..
