Young Republicans declare war on Hillary...

Members attending the group's biennial convention said it's not too early to talk about how to keep a Republican in the White House, and they believe Clinton could help them win again if she were on the Democratic ticket.

"I think it's very likely the senator from New York will run," said Rick Veenstra, 27, chairman of the Illinois Young Republicans. "She'll bring a lot of people to the polls. The name Clinton before a number of Republicans is akin to waving a red flag."

Convention guests attended several panels and training seminars on Thursday, including one on how to mobilize young voters by "keeping it positive not partisan." They were told the only demographic President Bush lost to Sen. John Kerry in 2004 was those ages 18 to 29.

"This party cannot afford to allow that segment of the population to be Democrat," said Frank Fahrenkopf, former Republican National Committee chairman and Thursday's keynote speaker. "This is where the Young Republicans can be of particular value."

Youth Say: Bad Bush, No Biscuit!

Greenberg Quinlan Rosner (GQR), in conjunction with internet survey firm Polimetrix, is conducting a "Youth Monitor" series of surveys of 18-25 year olds. The first survey in the series has just been released and it suggests that youth, as they showed in the 2004 election, are very much not with the Bush program.

According to the poll, youth give Bush a strongly net negative approval rating--42 percent approval,with 58 percent disapproval, for a -16 net. Even more tellingly, youth hold the following views: by 63-37, they feel the war in Iraq has not been worth the cost in US lives and dollars; by 65-33, they believe the Democrats, not the Republicans, do a better job representing the interests of young people; by 64-36, they think Bush and the Republicans "are going too far by invading peoples' personal lives and family decisions", rather than "are doing a good job in trying to uphold moral values and protecting families"; by 58-42, they believe we need to work harder at tolearting people who are different, particularly gays, rather than work harder at upholding traditional values and strong families; and, last but not least, by 57-43, they think that Bush has not made us safer from terrorist attack.

By these data, the Democrats should replicate their recent strong performance among young voters in 2006 and perhaps beyond.

The young republicans on campus here at IU are such sleaze and are soooooooooo dumb. I can't stand it. I wish the young democrats would start becoming a little more involved in things. the chapter here on campus are not addressing alot of things, due to the fact that we are majority here, but those kids are just so damn insane and lame.

if they love and worship chimpy and the GOP they should show their support and pick up a rifle and take the first military flight to iraq.

Who cares what a bunch of white-boy RW chickenhawks thinks about Hillary Clinton? With her intelligence and good political sense, she won't run, and this'll all have been for nothing. They will have been spinning their wheels.

Reagan wasn't reviled by the other side the way Hillary is. Many Democrats didn't even know him, politically. To most he was a former actor who was a so-so Governor of Calif. Her record is well out there, both as a Senator and a First Lady. And, as much as I like and admire her as a person, she and Bill are absolutely hated by most on the other side, and far too polarizing to do us any good in a GE. Plus, and this is only personal, I really don't like that she has moved so far right to become more palatable to more of the Party. I just don't.

was pretty bad. The state universities used to be free to residents until he was governor. I believe there were a lot of free-speech issues during his governorship. A lot of progressive folks were terrified when he won the election. We were afraid of what would happen if this right-wing lunatic got his hands on America's WMDs -- kind of the way people felt about Barry Goldwater in the 60s.

will see in the next twenty years. Have there been two more "polarizing" Presidents in the last two decades than Bill Clinton and George W. Bush? "Polarizing" isn't enough to defeat someone. If a fired up base was enough to win, then John Kerry would be President right now, because the our base was real fired up in 2004. The litmus test for most Americans in the 21st century when it comes to Democrats is: NATIONAL SECURITY and pragmatic foreign policy. The problem with Kerry was he never had an overarching theme to his campaign, like Bill Clinton always had. That large percentage of people that "hate" Hillary are called strong Republicans, who will hate anybody we put out there. This country has no qualms about electing "polarizing" individuals as President. I don't know if Hillary can win a national election, but at least I know she is surrounded by the best and brightest political consultants who have been in the trenches for two WINNING national elections. There will inevitably be many "swift-boat" like-attacks on Hillary, but I can guarantee you it won't take her campaign two weeks to respond to the attacks. And if the fringe liberal wing and the fringe conservative wing both hate Hillary, it probably means she is doing something right.
