Dean: "Who do you value more.... Mr. President.?"
Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 09:37 PM by madfloridian
From Madison, WI tonight:

"Bush said in 2003 that he would fire anyone in his administration involved in the leak, and the White House has been on the defensive since the latest news reports showing Rove may have been involved."

"Now we're going to find out, Mr. President, if you'll keep your word: who do you value more, Mr. President, do you value intelligence operatives defending the United States of America or do you value political operatives from Texas?" Dean told a crowd of 500 in a downtown Madison theater.

"Who do you value more, Mr. President, the security of the American people, or your political cronies? Will you keep your word?"

1. I LOVE that man!
It's soooo refreshing to have a Dem standing up and saying these things! Where's the media on calling Bush out on this one? There's documented proof that Rove outed Valerie Plame to Cooper, but his head has not rolled? What hypocrisy! Yeah! Dean!

2. And again Howard is out there acting like a democrat with something
to fight for.

I notice that since he became the head of the DNC and speaking out without any fear of the republicans or the administration, more people have become more vocal. John Kerry wasn't this fiesty before Howard Dean came along. Now he's acting like he has a spine.

As always, I'll point out up front that I'm a Clarkie to (prevent any misunderstandings).

9. I went to the "Repug" Bar after and it was a ghost town
No one was protesting the Dean rally from what I could see. I did a visit to the State Street Bar a block away from the Orpheum and it was mostly the Vicki McKenna radio crew and a couple Repug legislators getting drunk.

I overheard that there was a Dean Scream Contest (yawn) and the radio crew was desperately trying to give away free merch.

I watched the Dean speech on my video while eating dinner and I could detect some Freepers wondering where the loud cheering was coming from.

Howard was absolutely awesome. The place did a number of standing ovations throughout. I was about five feet away from him when he spoke.

I'm digitizing the video now and should have something viewable in an hour or so.

30. No sleep until it's online tonight...
It's compressing into a QuickTime MP4 file as I speak. You'll need QuickTime to view the file. Hopefully, that's cool.

I'll make a Windows Media version later.

I just want this video to get out!

It will be QuickTime initially. If people want to download it and mirror, that would be cool too. It's a great document to share and keep the momentum going.

God Bless You!!!

:loveya:

Howard Dean speaks for ME! BTW - that is something else with which I am now closing my conversations whenever I call some representative. ESPECIALLY any Democrats. They NEED TO KNOW that Howard Dean speaks for a HELLUVA LOT of us. I always close with - "Howard Dean speaks for ME," and "Please remember: impeachment IS an option." Just planting those seeds... planting those seeds...

Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 12:21 AM by lyonn
(Muhlman(?))on the Rove factor and described the Dems speaking out against Rove as thugs (believe it was Chris Matthews' show). Dean speaks harshly of the repubs and all hell breaks lose, this jerk call Dems thugs and I doubt we will hear anymore about it. Of course all the evening news was presenting the Repubs version of Rove and how Wilson had "lied" and Plame "was not a covert CIA operative." Earlier in the evening someone was brave enough to announce that the Repubs had their talking points distributed to the talking heads of the party. Gawd it's so obvious what is going on. I feel fairly comfortable that this time they won't get by with it.

Dean is exactly what this party need, brains and guts.

Jabbing at both parties, Dean draws cheers
00:00 am 7/14/05
George Hesselberg Wisconsin State Journal

"Wednesday night may have been one of those rare occasions when a crowd was already boiling before Howard Dean gave a speech. Not that the chairman of the Democratic National Committee calmed them down. He left a group of more than 700 people cheering after his short talk in the Orpheum Theatre on State Street.

This was after state Democrats barely avoided a fiasco, having rented only the theater lobby - capacity less than 150 - for the short-notice "grassroots" fundraiser. With many supporters hoping to stop in for the speech on their way to Concert on the Square, and Dean's drawing appeal among the party members, the lobby quickly filled before 5 p.m. A line of perspiring faithful outside snaked to Johnson Street, and the mood was restless, if not outright restive.

Joe Wineke, the state Democratic Party chairman, himself red-faced and sweating, surveyed the packed lobby, heard a suggestion to move to the theater, and saw theater owner Henry Doane give the nod that it could be done."

"The compact, gray-haired Dean, 56, with rolled-up sleeves, red tie and active eyebrows, is the former governor of Vermont, a physician, and a failed candidate for president. Although a certain bluntness in speech has attracted recent attention, his message to an eclectic Madison crowd Wednesday night was encouraging without name-calling or histrionics, and was critical of his own party as well as Republicans."

What a description...compact, active eyebrows...funny.
