Nevada Young Republicans Suffer Heavy Blow.
Young Republicans suffer setback

Nevada chapter chairman holding the tab; allegations swirl

Nevada's chapter of the Young Republicans has basically imploded, leaving its chairman with up to $25,000 in personal debt and allegations that he mishandled money.

All but three people have resigned from the statewide group, but the fallout could prove increasingly embarrassing to the entire state Republican Party.

"I've got bills at the hotel I can't pay," said Taylor, a 29-year-old political science senior at UNR who said he had to quit his food service job and drop classes to plan the convention.

"It's a really sad day when my congressmen and my senator, who are sitting on millions, can't cut me a check for $25,000," Taylor said. "I don't think I'm asking for much."

4. I thought organizations were created to support the party and candidates
Raising money to give to the State Party and to individual campaigns. When did organizations start asking candidates to give them money?

(I know some candidates or their campaigns do give State and County parties $$ for voter lists or to cover costs of printing lit pieces, but $25,000 to hold a convention?)

7. Quit job, dropped classes to do 'convention planning'...
IOW: ceased responsible endeavors to spend more time on parties. Now he wants somebody to pay the bills for his whoopee time.

Guy is twenty-friggin-nine. In 6 years he will be eligible to be President. Sounds like a b*sh replacement in the tube...

Somebody in NV, get some enlistment forms to this bozo. He needs a job! :evilgrin:

But, no charges were pressed. He probably gave everything back in exchange. He better hurry up and file bankruptcy before the new bill goes into effect.

10. He gave up his job
so he could do his work as chairman of the Young Republicans, and now he's broke and in debt? There's a job waiting for him in any branch of the US military!

I wonder if this guy is a Freeper? Seems they had a questionable fundraiser ~ considering how concerned Freepers were with the fundraiser here at DU for Andy Stevenson, this sounds like something they ought to be investigating.

Sanson claims that Taylor didn't follow through with his work, and his lawsuit asks for the money back.

Sanson has been in contact with producers from both "Judge Judy" and "The People's Court," though Taylor said this week he wouldn't agree to air the case on TV.

12. Let's see him apply for personal bankruptcy now! heheheh!
When does the new bankruptcy law take effect?

And does he know that you can't be protected from debt incurred less than 90 days from when you declare bankruptcy?

You know, DU raised something like $50,000 for Andy Stephenson in only 11 days.

You would hope a bunch of spoiled brat over-privileged Republican trust-fund kids could easily raise $25,000 for Taylor.

14. Here's some more about Nathan Taylor

Chickenhawk Squawking Whining

Ah, young Nathan Taylor. Remember him? The Chairman of the Young Republican National Convention in Las Vegas? You know the one who said such inspiring things as:

Nathan Taylor further commented "It is no wonder why so-called political leaders who cater to these malcontents no longer control the Presidency, the Congress, most governorships nor state legislatures. They clearly stand for nothing but thwarting those brave men and women who desire only to protect us from our proven enemies."

What a guy. Well, seems old Nathan isn't making any friends on his side of the aisle either. Apparently the convention wasn't a money-maker, and Nathan has been stiffed with the bill. For as much as 25 Grand.

Nevada's chapter of the Young Republicans has basically imploded, leaving its chairman with up to $25,000 in personal debt and allegations that he mishandled money.

Complaint against college Republican dropped in Reno

ASSOCIATED PRESS

RENO, Nev. (AP) - A criminal complaint has been dropped against a state Young Republicans member accused of embezzling registration fees for an upcoming GOP convention.

Joe Brezny, Nevada's national committeeman for Young Republicans, said he asked Reno police to drop the complaint against Nathan Taylor after determining the charges were groundless.

<snip>

In the complaint he filed with police Feb. 14, Brezny alleged Taylor used registration fees and donations for personal use such as bar tabs and credit card debts.

n a letter to police, Arjun Dhingra, state Young Republicans chair, said about $25,000 received from 200 people around the country was missing.

<snip>

While he appreciates the apology, Taylor said, the experience has soured him on politics and he plans to quit after the convention.

This guy is off to a great start as a future Republican VIP, straight from the DeLay school of politics:
The young Nevada man designated to chair the upcoming 2005 Young Republican National Convention in Las Vegas has been accused of embezzling registration fees from around the country to pay off bar tabs, personal loans and credit card debts.

Nevada's national committeeman for Young Republicans filed a criminal complaint Monday with the Reno Police Department alleging Nathan Taylor received more than $25,000 in registration fees and donations through his corporation, YRNC 2005, and spent almost all of it in the past year for personal use.

<snip>

YRNC $2005,000 (none / 0)

This is just a rehersal for young repugs. Twelve crimes later - Nathan Taylor joins the WHPC

UNLV student, chair of convention accused of embezzling money
By Mauria Francis
Published: Thursday, February 24, 2005

A man currently attending UNLV and designated to chair the upcoming 2005 Young Republican National Convention has been accused of embezzling more than $25,000 in registration fees across the country.

A criminal complaint was filed against Nathan Taylor, 29, Monday Feb. 14 with the Reno Police Department, accusing Taylor of using registration fees and donations given to his corporation, YRNC 2005, for personal use. Such bills included "bar tabs, personal loans and credit card debts."

<snip>

According to the criminal complaint filed, the bank account statement shows withdrawals from the YRNC 2005 account from Bully's bar at Carson City, Shell Oil, PF Chang's restaurant, Mandalay Bay and twice for $200 in cash within a 30-day period. The complaint also contains an affidavit alleging Taylor asked Kriston Whiteside, president of the UNR College Republicans, to write a check from the YRNC 2005 to cover his birthday party expenses at a bar.

<snip>

"I believe that if I remain chairman of this convention that there are individuals who believe that they would not be able to have control over the election," Taylor said to the Review-Journal. "They're willing to do anything and whatever it takes. I actually think it's extraordinary to take these steps to attack my name. It's politics of personal destruction."

Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 12:18 PM by IanDB1
I wonder how much of his "bar tab" was spent on video poker?

And wouldn't it be funny if there were a gay group having a MeetUp there on the same day?

17. Following in a long tradition of Young Republicans...
"Rove was a "Young Republican" back when being a Young Republican wasn't cool (a historical era ranging from 1959 through the present). As a student at the prestigious University of Utah, Rove (who still had hair at the time) teamed up with a young Lee Atwater to seize control of the College Republicans political club in the early 1970s.

By all accounts, the race for the coveted chairmanship of the meaningless College Republicans organization was a portent of things to come. According to the Washington Post, the two men executed a balls-to-the-wall campaign to put Rove in the catbird's seat, and once there, he wasted no time getting his group involved in dirty tricks on behalf of Richard M Nixon's 1972 campaign. You may remember that campaign, it was the beginning of Watergate.

Oxymoronically, Rove dropped out of college to become executive director of the College Republicans, all the while practicing dirty tricks on behalf of the candidates of his choice. According the Post, these tricks included identity theft, petty larceny and campaign fraud. Rove characterized these felonies and misdemeanors as a "youthful prank.""

18. Look at Boosh**'s Approval Ratings in Nevada
57% Disapproval, 38% Approval!

That's within 1 point of California.

It looks like a blue state now.

I suppose Yucca Mountain might have something to do with it.

about "leftist groups bent on infiltrating the Convention" Since he was in food service and is stuck with a 25k debt I have heard the army is giving pretty good bonuses to sign up now.

"In recent weeks I have received numerous e-mails from leftist groups bent on infiltrating the Convention and protesting the appearance of veterans of the War on Terror. We will not allow these cowards to dishonor our servicemen,” stated Taylor."
