Someone tell me why Boxer wouldn't run for President?

With everything that has been happening don't you think that the American people will want some one way different from the Bush and Thugs act?

You've got to remember, the people have had years of conditioning to think liberals are evil. An "ideologically pure" liberal would have a difficult time winning a national election right now, or ever, for that matter.

Also, remember the unfortunate nature of the "Big Tent". Republicans can nominate an extremist because they are a party with essentially two and only two factions - theocrats and corporate whores. If those two groups ever agree, that's a lot of power behind you. With Democrats, we have hundreds of factions and causes that people are unwilling to abandon for particular candidates. That's part of why finding an ideologically pure consensus candidate is very intensely difficult for us.

I'd like to know what red states she turns blue.

My question is really coming from the hype I'm beginning to see about Hillary running seriously and it amazes me that she would be a front runner. She is NOT going to turn one red state blue, IMO, and rather the likelihood quite the contrary, she would probably turn a blue state red. As I've said before, I just think we need to offer a serious change to "politics as usual" and go with that.

If Boxer is all she seems to be, she'd be much better equipped to handle anything the conservative party throws her way.

I personally don't think a woman would win no matter what at this time in our country, being at war... our country is not ready to accept a woman as a leader. I believe we NEED a woman at this point, and if one is going to be center running, it should be someone who withstands the smear and bullshit that campaigns dish out.

I love Boxer and think very high of her, way above Hillary. I just don't get the backing Hillary is getting. I really don't. There are way better candidates than her, if we are going for a woman. If we are not going for a woman, (IMO, would be smarter at this point in time), I'd be happy to hear that.

Seems the press is pushing for Hillary, and I think it's a republican wet dream (if you'll pardon the expression) because she would be thrown off a cliff (figuratively speaking, of course) before she could get her first message out there.

The RW will drag anything that's happened in her life through the dirt. They'll insinuate that she's a slut, that she's a lesbian and that she has frequent abortions. The RW media will give her family the same treatment too, they'll all be fair game.

They'll distort her Senate voting record into painting her a flip-flopper in much the same way they did so to Kerry.

If she doesn't want to go through all that, I don't blame her. I know that if she stood for election and won, she'd be a fine president and one of the best there's ever been.

She has GOT to be cleaner than Hillary. There isn't much that can be done to someone who is clean, and no I'm not naive. I know they will make shit up, but it won't stick if it isn't true. You know, times are so drastically different, and Bush is seriously damaged. The republican party is seriously damaged and many are looking for CHANGE.

That is key, IMO. We need to offer a REAL change, not Hillary. Even us dems say Hillary is the same old bullshit.

It would keep the debate from going too far to the right.

I also hope Sharpton runs again. He makes for great television.

I was unpleasantly surprised by the amount of people I talked to last year who believed the Swift Boat lies about Kerry.

There is hope like you say because the GOP seems damaged, but the "librul" media will do their best to play this down.

The media will spend the whole of 2008 reminding the US public that the Democratic nominee is "way out of the mainstream" and how "likeable" the Republican nominee is.

They are as insidious as the Repukes.
