Misdirection on Supreme Court Choice

So why the misdirection in the form of letting people think that Edith Clement might get the nomination? Was it to see how the Democrats would react and to see how hard they would fight any nominee?

It's just another political payoff. Roberts worked in Florida for Bush-Cheney in 2000. He's only been a judge for two years. He's been a partisan Republican hack for twenty years.

Bush was selected by the Supreme Court, and now he selects a member of his campaign to the Supreme Court in order to deflect attention away from ethics violations by the head of its campaign team, Karl Rove.

Partisan hackery at its most pure.
