Question: Roberts & Recount

I keep seeing people say Roberts was "part of the Bush recount team" or that he helped get Bush in the recount effort - but I can't find anything but that he donated some $$ to the recount campaign.

Help me out here - anyone have a source for this information?

NOTHING about his being a lawyer for the recount or on the recount team or anything - other than people saying he was. No link. No story. Nothing.

I don't recall specifically what Roberts' part in the theft of Florida in 2000 was, but Toobin mentions him by name in his book about the debacle, "Too Close to Call." One of Bush's first federal court appellate appointments was to put Roberts on the DC Court of Appeals.

Some further digging is probably warranted, and I hope one or two Senators think to ask some rather pointed questions about Roberts, what his role in stealing the Florida vote might have been, and his current attitude is toward thwarting the will of the people under color of law.

I think Roberts' role would have been as an attorney, assisting James Baker in stealing Florida's electoral votes for Chimpy. The payback was clearly Roberts' appointment to the DC Circuit and now his nomination to the Supreme Court.

Payback -- for services rendered?

It doesn't look as if he played a very big role...... if so - it's pretty well under-wraps.

Just found what the next poster said about Roberts being "rewarded" with the District Court position on page 273 - also Miguel Estrada... so maybe he DID do something important.

I don't know if Roberts played a small role or a big role in stealing Florida, but it's a line of questioning that I hope some of the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee decide to pursue.

Roberts is mentioned on page 185 as one of the networking team of former SC clerks working to push the case up to the Supremes because they knew the SC would then hand the election to baby turd. Following the election Roberts was appointed his juicy Appeals role owing to his "important behind-the-scenes role(s) in the Florida litigation" pg 273.
