1. If Al Gore and Joe Lieberman had had a love child....
it would be Evan Bayh. He looks like a young Al Gore, and he votes like Lieberman.

3. Saw him on Road to WH on C-Span Sunday. An old lady asked
him what he was going to do to protect her vote since it was stolen in 2000 and 2004. He said, "well, ma'am I do not believe the election was stolen. I am supporting a paper trail bill" She said, "Well now what good will that do, with republican control it will never get passed." That threw him. He kind of giggled and said "See what you mean, catch 22" She was pretty taken aback and finally just said, "well we have been thinking about moving to Vancouver or Victoria" and she walked away. (paraphrasing)

So I don't know about you, but I would never support him....

12. Hillary to the unemployment line!!!!
I'd like to outsource her job so she can "feel the pain" of those that have lost their jobs to India and other cheap-labor countries.

No way will I support Hillary.

Yes to almost anything the Republicans try to legislate.

We are out of our minds for even considering him. If you must have a pretty face, choose Edwards. At least the words "poor people" are in his vocabulary.

Or be really smart and just support Wes Clark!

8. He seems incredibly naive to have grown up in a political family

He really seems to think Rumsfeld is working for Bush, and Bush is really running the country. Check out this interview on FAUX, and see what you think. (This was around the time of the Abu Ghraib hearings involving Rumsfeld.)

28. The only thing Indiana about Bayh is the "IND" that follows his name
Bayh was raised in the Beltway and has lived there most of his life, the only exception was when he served as Indiana Governor. There is little of Hoosier in Bayh, and I don't think he even likes basketball.

10. To me he comes across as a bit of wimp, re: standing up to the r's.
Example: I saw a segment on CSPAN where he was in NH and an older woman who seemed to be loyal Dem asked him about how we will have a chance with elections being fixed by voting machines, specifically, OH. His answer: "Ma'am I respectfully disagree with your statement that the election in Ohio was fixed......." followed by some wimpy blah- blah-blah.

and a Proud member of the DLC.

Evan Bayh, U.S. Senator, IN

If you don't support LABOR, strong Environmental Protection, FAIR Trade, or increased wages for the Middle Class instead of Dividends for stockholders and perks for CEO's, Bayh is your guy.

16. He can win
He's a likeable red-state former governor. He can win, especially if he (unlike Kerry, who I worked my ass off for), picks a running mate who brings SOMETHING useful to the ticket.

If you go for the Alfafa type.
Some do you know.

Plus when Bayh, pronounced Bye, is your last name,
guess that could be an easy setup. Bayh-Bye in '08?

I don't know how reassuring and "strong" he appears,
although wimp could cross one's mind.

21. I don't know much about him, either, but I saw him on CSPAN the other
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 04:42 PM by calimary
day, taking questions from voters in what appeared to be some constituents meeting. He seemed reasonable enough. But then an elderly woman questioned him about the theft of the 2000 election, AND the theft of the 2004 election - as in - how can we know our votes are protected, and he told her he disagreed with her about the 2004 vote theft. Well, anybody who had even a half-assed idea about how much voter fraud there was, in Ohio ALONE, never mind in Florida and elsewhere, would have been taken aback by that. I was. Also, it would have behooved him to be a little more diplomatic in his response to her, rather than challenging her assertion. Criminey - she was a voter for heaven's sakes! She was one of the good guys, too. If he really had disagreed with her, he should have kept that to himself.

I must say, that incident alone makes me hope somebody else runs for president. As far as I recall, he's capitulated to the bad guys a few times too many. And his discussion with these folks on CSPAN was mealy-mouthed to say the least. Howard Dean comes out and says what needs to be said. Bayh seemed like he was Cirque de Soleil-ing around any firm stances of any sort. I must say I wasn't impressed.

But if he winds up being a contender, I'll look him over. It's better than another republi-CON, that's for sure.

24. As a Hoosier Democrat I will say
Evan is as useless as teats on a boar hog. But he has that kind of middle of the road mushiness that DLC types love...plus he can garner Republican votes in a VERY Republican state. I will be working here in Indianapolis to defeat his monkey ass, if and when it comes to that.

25. Bottom line: if he's nominated, I'll vote for him, knock doors, make calls
I'll give him money, I'll write to the local papers, I'll nag out of state relatives to vote for him, I'll spend my summer vacation going anywhere he asks me to go to try and take sanity back into the White House. Pissing on each other and calling each other DINO is part of the fuck up last year. Fuck purity tests, I want to stop the erosion of the Constitution and the narrowing of the future that's going on under Republican mismanagement.

What stands has he taken?
What has he fought for or against?
What passion does he have?

Vanilla all the way.

I don't think he can excite the base and pull independents.

29. Voting Records Reflect a Person's Constituencies
It is hard to maintain a liberal voting record when you represent one of the most conservative states in the country, Indiana. It is amazing that a Democrat would even be able to be elected and re-elected from that state.

31. Marion County went for Kerry in 2004 by a comfortable margin
And Indianapolis has a Democratic Mayor! You are ignoring the fact that votes are diluted by a variety of factors, one of which is the fact that Congress has refused to increase the size of the House (this is one of the reasons why there is so much gerrymandering and redistricting).

We need serious electoral reform in this country. Millions have been disenfranchised by the political system, and then we have you come along and say that we are conservative on the basis of our screwed up election system.
