Protests planed for * SS PR (BS) trip and speech in Atlanta Friday 11:00am
They finally spilled the beans about where * is going to give his "Invitation Only" "Sell the Social Security BS to the Pre-selected 'Older Americans'" in Atlanta tomorrow.

They have been reporting about it for the last few days here, during the local Public Radio News updates but, until today, they hadn't been told where he would be speaking.

Yesterday, they started reporting yesterday that, the local "Air Space" would be closed to small, non-commercial Airplanes and Jets too.

Anyway, the radio reported that 4 different groups were planning to protest outside the Atlanta Civic Center tomorrow.

Protests are gathering at 11:00am outside the Atlanta Civic Center, including a Seniors group, a Labor group and 2 Anti-Iraq War groups.

He is scheduled (according to the radio) to speak at 12:00 Noon to about 2:00pm. The civic center is right above a MARTA Train station, on the North line (N2 I think). Kind of a dumb move, IMHO considering the 2nd London Bombing today, but maybe that's why they are gathering there, they might think most would be too scared to take the train there to protest.

Or they might stop the MARTA Train service to the Norther part of the city during the time he is here. Why not, they shut down 3 (THREE!) Interstate Highways whenever he drives through Atlanta (I-75, I-85, and I-20). Most likely, he will land at Dobbins ARB in Marietta, then Motorcade down to the Atlanta Civic Center for his stupid PR Photo Opp Downtown.

Either way, their will be a LOT of Highway overpasses to post protest signs for him to see, unless they shut all those down too.

5. Yup, I bet some of them are really going to be pissed when...

...he shuts down the Charlie Brown and Peachtree/Dekalb Airports.

I wonder why they don't just have this stupid PR BS at the Lockheed/Martin Plant or at a Hanger at Dobbins, but then, that wouldn't cost the American Tax Payers Millions of Dollars.

12. I am very relieved that he will not be at Lockheed
or Dobbins. I work directly across the street from Dobbins on Cobb Parkway. No way do I want the traffic screwed up in this area.

4. Uh-oh, don't say Protest -- The other day I read that the FBI
monitored websites who talked about protests in NY during the GOP convention.

Of course, I just used the word.

Thanks for the info!

6. Social Security must be fixed
When my grandfather retired, he had 8 children and 43 grandchildren paying into Social Security. When my parents retired they had 4 children and 14 grandchildren paying into Social Security. I will retire in 5 years. I have 1 child and no grandchildren. This is a system that cannot continue to work. Fortunately, I was a good investor and will have other incomes.
Instead of protesting for the sake of protesting, try to come up with a system that will not require lots of grandchildren paying your benefits.

8. Your argument doesn't hold water. We have many legal immigrants
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 05:39 PM by CottonBear
with high birth rates. We do not lack for a large younger generation. As progressive Democrats, we here at DU support Social Security and wish only to strengthen it not "fix" (i.e. destroy it) like Bu$h wants to do. FDR gave us a great program that has lifted millions out of poverty, provided for the disabled and supported surviving spouses and children.

10. fix it BEFORE it breaks
You are wrong about the lack of a younger generation. In 1938 Social Security was paying out a small fraction of what was taken in and the excess was used to pay for his other social programs. The excess has been decreasing and in one more generation it will be in the red. We need about 15 workers per retiree. To cover that through immigration would leave this country standing room only in 3 more generations. There would be imposed birth control before then.

17. Well, Smitty, there's an easy fix. Just raise or remove the ceiling.
Why does it stop at $90,000. Why do I pay on 100% of my income and rich people only pay on a small portion?

Maybe good investors like yourself need to be paying their fair share.

11. I have an Idea, Why don't we just Tax the Hell out of "Good Investors..."
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 02:23 AM by Up2Late
...like you! And let's tax your "other Income" too!

If you're so worried about it, why don't you go have sex with your current or future wife? COME ON! We all have to make some sacrifices, go knock her up!

Or are you too impotent from all the time you're spending on the Golf Course?

COME ON! We don't protest * "...for the sake of protesting...!" We protest him and his evil minions because, unlike you and the Stepford Families you hang with, we DO see how he is destroying OUR America and our future security and happiness. :spank:

Man! Doesn't the Wall Street Journal have a Discussion board where you can repeat that WH spin crap? You are making it all too obvious that you are not here to make a lot of friends spewing that RW Crap around here.
