I'm f-ing freaked out: Will Bushco attack Iran?
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 10:04 AM by iconoclastic cat
This morning, as I drink my black coffee while reading DU and dKos, I am scared shitless.

It seems to me, on this fine Saturday morning, that my country has been taken over in a coup. We have a president and his military leadership who refuse to comply with the laws of this country. We have scandals which are backing them into a corner. We have a war that is falling apart.

I wonder if they have any choice but to stage an attack in the U.S. (in the style of London and Egypt) and then start a war with Syria and/or Iran.

What the hell is going on?

1. I think he may not get to do it, but he wants to do it.
Any time Bush talks to "the people" of a country with his "those who are with us will be free" shit, he's gunning for them. Here's the quote that gives away his intent - he said something almost identical when he approved the Afghanistan invasion, and again when he sent the armed forces into Iraq (without permission, long before congressional approval).

Anyway, here's the quote:

"And to the Iranian people, I say tonight: As you stand for your own liberty, America stands with you." - G. W. Bush

36. Very Good Article on the Plans Being Drawn Up to Attack
Iran with nuclear weapons and what we can do to help stop it on Veterans for Common Sense.

http://www.veteransforpeace.org/impeachment/petition2.htm

They also have a petition to IMPEACH BUSH/CHENEY along with a download pdf file of 6 pages with the best summation of the Bush Regime War Crimes citing International and US Law with links.

www.veteransforpeace.org/impeachment/violations_documented.pdf

Thank You!for signing our petition to impeach George W. Bush for crimes committed in the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

I want my representative in the U.S. House of Representatives to vote to impeach President Bush for the high crimes described in the case for impeachment made by Veterans For Peace, and have the case prosecuted and tried in the U.S. Senate. Signatures on this petition will be delivered to the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee and to the ranking Democrat on the Committee. THAT IS REP. CONYERS!

Some here say Iran, some Venezuela and some say Syria. Guess it depends how tight the foil is wrapped. :)

12. It'll be Syria. He always attacks an unarmed country. Syria doesn't have
the back-up that Iran has, or the fighting forces. He is a bully after all. Really no telling what he'll do, that's why this scandal has got to be pushed to it's limit, we've got to get him out of office before he can do anymore damage or at least neutalize his credibility to the point where even his 'Republicans for Voldemort' won't support any of his efforts for fear of being associated with him.

21. They might have an adequate military, don't know about strong, but then
we don't even have a strong military anymore. I'm not saying it wouldn't be a mistake to attack Syria, of course it would, but everything this gang does is a mistake, that's a given. Personally I think the rest of the world has had it with our 'pre-emptive' Bush doctrine, just that Syria is a more likely target for 'shock and aweing' than Iran. I don't think they will use ground troops, just use some excuse like Syria attacked our troops in Iraq, in order to go in and bomb the crap out of everything.

you know, the one that attacked Israel (Syria, Jordan, Egypt). Syria's is also quickly running out of oil. Syria's oil output has fallen steadily, to an estimated average for 2000 of 530,000 bbl/d and probably much lower now. In fact they are expected to become an oil importer in less than 10 years. There's no way we are attacking Syria.

Here's a breakdown of their armed forces if you want to know: Army (320,000), Navy (5,000), Air Force (40,000), Air Defense Command (60,000), Army Reserves (400,000), Air Force Reserves (92,000), Navy Reserves (8,000). http://www.nigc.ir/eia/syria.asp Sounds like a bitch to attack to me. Of course our advanced weapons would decimate them.

Then they leaked their "Armaggeddon" plans to conservative anti-neocons at the American Conservative, trying to spook the Iranians back in line. It won't work, of course. Iran's been playing us for suckers ever since they sent Chalabi to con the neocons into taking out Iraq.

31. Correct Jody
We do not have the capaility of occupying Iran. It is much larger, much more populated and much more mountqainous than Iraq.

We could bomb nuclear facilities if we wanted to, but a groiund invasion is not going to happen.

Syria is another question.

Syria could be invaded and swiftly occupied. It is much smaller, much weaker and completely surrounded.

because we would have to draft people into the military and train them to expand the forces enough to make a ground assault and maintain the troops we have in Iraq and Afghanistan too. If he bombs Iran, he might turn the people who are against the gov't into supporters instead.

Comments on Conyers' blog this morning about Iran situation:

CONPLAN 8022 anticipates two different scenarios. The first is a response to a specific and imminent nuclear threat, say in North Korea. A quick-reaction, highly choreographed strike would combine pinpoint bombing with electronic warfare and cyberattacks to disable a North Korean response, with commandos operating deep in enemy territory, perhaps even to take possession of the nuclear device.

Cheney is the top dog ,report has been being supressed for a month.

A war without end:

http://www.itszone.co.uk/zone0/viewtopic.php?t=38408

We can not let Cheney do this, the American conservative is reporting its already in the bag. Even if there has to be a forced arrest soon Cheney can not be allowed to enact PNAC's plan!

~~~The build up has been taking place for quite some time.
Israel has been supplied very well and the plans have been in the works for a long time. Now, it's just a matter of timing the first strike.
The enemy is behind the gates and sits in the basement of the White House controlling all actions.
He needs to be taken out now and if he won't go willingly then it must be by force or covert action.
Not Just A Last Resort?
A Global Strike Plan, With a Nuclear Option
By William Arkin
Sunday, May 15, 2005; Page B01
Early last summer, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld approved a top secret "Interim Global Strike Alert Order" directing the military to assume and maintain readiness to attack hostile countries that are developing weapons of mass destruction, specifically Iran and North Korea.
Two months later, Lt. Gen. Bruce Carlson, commander of the 8th Air Force, told a reporter that his fleet of B-2 and B-52 bombers had changed its way of operating so that it could be ready to carry out such missions. "We're now at the point where we are essentially on alert," Carlson said in an interview with the Shreveport (La.) Times. "We have the capacity to plan and execute global strikes." Carlson said his forces were the U.S. Strategic Command's "focal point for global strike" and could execute an attack "in half a day or less."
In the secret world of military planning, global strike has become the term of art to describe a specific preemptive attack. When military officials refer to global strike, they stress its conventional elements. Surprisingly, however, global strike also includes a nuclear option, which runs counter to traditional U.S. notions about the defensive role of nuclear weapons.
~~Note this problem
Dick Cheney and Douglas Feith are traitors to the United States of America, have engaged in multiple illegal activities destroying the United States security , have lied to a Federal Grand Jury on at least one occasion and have painted all evidence against them as political.
These dangerous men have also used Bush and his capital completely up, and conspired to force Karl Rove to become a traitor as well
Have you seen these dangerous men today? Are they on the MOST WANTED LIST OF WORLD HITS yet? The amount of sickening damage, could enforce CIA agents to even want to kill one of these men. We have a problem don't we?
~~~his (Chaney) is being set to happen before 2006 even gets here, you insane megalomaniac, that's before democrats or anyone else can get back control of this country.

All I think we may have to get a forced impeachment and take them out by force. Bush needs to get the hell out of dodge, have him seek house arrest while the CIA and team of experts go in there and put Cheney down. He's declaring an action of absolute genocide against all advice of the pentagon, homeland security, and mental health professionals.

He is simply very likely imbalanced and unfit, in every rule to hold command. He like Agnew before him, is a corrupt neocon who thinks of nothing but power and military destruction.~~All must continually remember this point;

"And frankly nobody has time to wait and see. Cheney is a criminal who is cornered, has been involved in destroying an entire CIA apparatus and has enemies everywhere. He is intent on nuking Iran and the General in charge of STRATCOM has already indicated it in writing. In the most conservative magazine to boot. "

Like Europe says, Cheney must be removed almost immediately. We can not wait or be complacent, he and those including Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz & Harold Rhode intend to cast nukes at Iran then Syria. They are setting up a holocaust which could destroy everyone who has no stake in these wars, millions could be vanquished.

A cornered biting rat and it has to be neutrelized. Remember this in every DSM meeting. Forget the lesser threats, remove the guillotine guy and then go after Osama. *Bush can go off to some undisclosed location to avoid getting assassinated by his former partners. It's Mr. Darth Sidious we have to take care of...

Bolton brought down the intercepts, gave them to Miller. Talked to Cheney, then Bolton handed it over to Libby for confirmation. A conspiracy by the heads of PNAC and do you not see it?

~~~~By the way the column on TPMCafe has been erased! I can't believe they are covering up the stories this fast, unbelievable.
~~~~Democrats win seats in South Carolina, in spite of GOP dirty tricks !

"Colleen stood her ground, and when the Post & Courier asked about her DFA-List endorsement, she made it clear that she was "proud to receive DFA's endorsement, because they support grassroots campaigns and candidates that are fiscally responsible." During the last week, the South Carolina GOP sent out several e-mails to their supporters throughout the state encouraging them to travel to Charleston to counter the "radical liberal Deaniacs who would be screaming their way to Charleston" the weekend before the election. Bush Administration Files 11th Hour Papers Blocking the Release of Darby CD Photos and Video Of Abu Ghraib Torture

Center for Constitutional Rights

On July 22, the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) denounced the latest efforts of the Bush Administration to block the release of the Darby photos and videos depicting torture at Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison facility. On June 2, 2004, CCR, along with the ACLU, Physicians for Human Rights, Veterans for Common Sense, and Veterans for Peace filed papers with the U.S. District Court, charging the Department of Defense and other government agencies with illegally withholding records concerning the abuse of detainees in American military custody. Since then, the organizations have been repeatedly rebuffed in their efforts to investigate what happened at the prison. ....

19. Here you go - read the entire article - this quote near bottom:
The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney's office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons.
Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option. As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States.

Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing -- that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack -- but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections.

Cheney Instructs the Pentagon to Prepare a Nuclear Attack Against Iran?!?
According to the TPM Cafe:

http://www.tpmcafe.com/story/2005/7/22/11532/9662

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Justin Logan excerpts an article that's apparently in the print issue of The American Conservative:

Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing--that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack--but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections.

Now, unfortunately, I have no idea whether or not that's true or even what context the assertion appears in. I should probably try and get a comp subscription, this kind of seems like a big deal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

This is just too scary. And yet, is it really that hard to believe?

28. Cute. Except that this only compels Iran to accellerate its nuke program
Plus, of course, Iran has shown that it's anything but cowed by BushCo's blustering upto now. Our take down of Saddam has brought the Iranians closer to the terror networks, not driven a wedge between them. This leak from Cheney's office will only strengthen the hand of the hardliners in Iran and make them friendlier toward the insurgents in Iraq. This is clearly a puffer fish move on Cheney's part. We're only threatening them with air power retaliation because that's the only card we've got left in our hand. If the mullahs can't see thru this bluff, they're remarkably stupid.

Based on how they got Chalabi to set up the neocons to take out Iran's #1 enemy for them, I'd say they're not very stupid.

29. Anyone remember this 01/05 Hersh article? - It's all about IRAN
(snip)

Bush and Cheney may have set the policy, but it is Rumsfeld who has directed its implementation and has absorbed much of the public criticism when things went wrong—whether it was prisoner abuse in Abu Ghraib or lack of sufficient armor plating for G.I.s’ vehicles in Iraq. Both Democratic and Republican lawmakers have called for Rumsfeld’s dismissal, and he is not widely admired inside the military. Nonetheless, his reappointment as Defense Secretary was never in doubt.

Rumsfeld will become even more important during the second term. In interviews with past and present intelligence and military officials, I was told that the agenda had been determined before the Presidential election, and much of it would be Rumsfeld’s responsibility. The war on terrorism would be expanded, and effectively placed under the Pentagon’s control. The President has signed a series of findings and executive orders authorizing secret commando groups and other Special Forces units to conduct covert operations against suspected terrorist targets in as many as ten nations in the Middle East and South Asia.

The President’s decision enables Rumsfeld to run the operations off the books—free from legal restrictions imposed on the C.I.A. Under current law, all C.I.A. covert activities overseas must be authorized by a Presidential finding and reported to the Senate and House intelligence committees. (The laws were enacted after a series of scandals in the nineteen-seventies involving C.I.A. domestic spying and attempted assassinations of foreign leaders.) “The Pentagon doesn’t feel obligated to report any of this to Congress,” the former high-level intelligence official said. “They don’t even call it ‘covert ops’—it’s too close to the C.I.A. phrase. In their view, it’s ‘black reconnaissance.’ They’re not even going to tell the cincs”—the regional American military commanders-in-chief. (The Defense Department and the White House did not respond to requests for comment on this story.)

In my interviews, I was repeatedly told that the next strategic target was Iran. “Everyone is saying, ‘You can’t be serious about targeting Iran. Look at Iraq,’ ” the former intelligence official told me. “But they say, ‘We’ve got some lessons learned—not militarily, but how we did it politically. We’re not going to rely on agency pissants.’ No loose ends, and that’s why the C.I.A. is out of there.”

30. Read the line in the article that says
"in the event of another 9/11 style attack". That's going to be their whole premises to launch another illegetimate war. Hey, why not, it worked for them the last time didn't it? :scared:
