Where were the Dem Senators yesterday?
This is a question which continues to be asked. And the Dems are roundly damned for their absenteeism, despite the pronouncement by "Tricky Dick" Lugar that he scheduled the hearing of Hughes at a time which make it particularly difficult for the Democrat committee members to attend.

I suggest you research this issue and figure it out!

1. Why did Karen Hughs even have a hearing? She's only a PR
person isn't she? I didn't think they had to have confirmation hearings!

2. She is being given ambassadorial status.
She will jet around on our dime and attempt to improve America's somewhat battered and besmirched reputation (allegedly, I don't believe anything this administration says! They have a downright despicable track record!).

4. I doubt the rest of the world is as stupid as many Americans, so I doubt
she'll succeed. I also didn't realize that all ambassadors went through the confirmation process. The only one I remember is Bolton!!!! Guess I still have a lot to learn about the process, or lack thereof.

3. I thought the same thing.
Hughes has already been there, why have a "hearing" for her to return? What are they going to ask her?

"Ms. Hughes, as the State Department's top public relations official, will you leak secret information about the operations of the US intelligence community to terrorist groups?"

"Oh, noooooo, or course not!"

"OK, you're hunky-dory with us!"

8. They could have asked her UNDER OATH.
What was the role of the White House Iraq Group, on which you served, in manipulating intelligence to sell the Iraq war?
Were you involved in declassifying memos to smear Richard Clarke?
Were you involved in the administration’s past efforts to hire fake news reporters to sell Administration policies?
Did you have any involvement in communications dirty tricks by the Bush administration? For example, giving Jeff Gannon Guckert White House press credentials?
Did you resist the administration’s efforts to politicize the September 11th attacks for political gain?
Did you intentionally falsify President Bush’s Guard record?

And here are the reasons why those questions need to be answered:

6. Great...thanks Sen. Biden. Great defensive moves.
Neat how you can play lapdog even by letter. You and Holy Joe need to just put a bloody R next to your name and stop shaming us!

7. The Karen Hughes appointment is a travesty
We shouldn't be appointing any member of the current
Administration to anything until we get to the bottom of the Rove conspiracy. Hughes was a member of the White House Iraq Group, charged with propagandizing the need for the US to attack Iraq. Other members included Rove, Libby, Bolton and Hadley. Hughes reportedly had to testify before the grand jury as well. We have no idea what she told it.

Our representatives should attend to business and not be doing weekend getaways while Bush is diligently kicking putatitve participants in the conspiracy upstairs.

This appointment sickens me. Do we really want Karen Hughes representing America's image abroad? It seems to me we can, and should, do a lot better
