John Conyers' Townhall Meetings today!
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 07:39 PM by Patchuli
Did anyone else attend a houseparty today with the conference call from Congressman Conyers, Ambassador Joseph Wilson and Randi Rhodes? It was great!

There were 300 houseparties across America (should have been more!) to discuss the Plame outing and the Downing Street Minutes with almost an hour long conference call with the above folks. There was actually even a houseparty held in Australia (which is sweet but embarassing!) We received information on activities we can do (as in writing media, Congress, etc.) I think mostly though these things are good for building community and strength.

The most interesting moments were when Joseph Wilson told us that George Bush Senior wrote him a letter of apology and condolence about his wife's covert status being destroyed and her safety imperiled.

Rep. Conyers was telling us about his times with Martin Luther King, Jr. and it was very moving. Randi told him that she thinks he is our new Martin Luther King, Jr. and was a leader to look up to!

Randi also reminded everyone that although Clinton had sex, W is f*cking everybody! She is great without restrain of the FCC!

I urge you guys to keep an eye on Conyers' web page and attend upcoming houseparties! We gotta kick some repug booty next year!!!

1. Er, "GEORGE" Clinton? (might wanna fix that typo...)
Thanks for the report. It's very heartening to know that there's at least ONE Democratic politician who shares our outrage.

2. You're so correct. I attended the Town Hall Meeting in Oakland, Ca.
today with Congresswoman Barbara Lee. It was brilliant.
We do need to unify and work hard across state lines to get people into Congress who will pay attention to our needs.

5. I'm north of you
We discussed having to lean on our Congressman Mike Thompson and on dear Senator Feinstein. Another concern was discussed: verified voting trails! We talked about how Schwarzenegger rushed to get this 'special election' of his in before the law for paper trails can go into effect! It was mentioned though that his political 'mandate' has shrunk just like the one W thought he had! Poor Ahnie has to go in the back door everywhere to hide from us nasty nurses, teachers and education workers, police and firefighters! LOL I was so happy the court took the redistricting off the ballot! That was his main objective...! The 'Peoples' Governor' indeed! :P

9. Yes - I was pleased to hear of the court's decision.
I signed a petition today circulating amongst us at the Town Hall Meeting for keeping Diebold out of California.
Hope it works.
Ahnold is one piece of you-know-what. And I don't think much of Maria either. She's no Kennedy in my estimation.

6. I got shut out. Too full.
Line started forming at 12:30 for the 2 pm start. I met people who drove in from Connecticut and didn't make it in time. There was no sneaking in. The event had bouncers with tattoos.

7. I had a mini-house party in Miami- but lots of no shows.
It was strange-people said they were coming but the never made it. It was sad that in all of Dade county, only one or two house parties were listed. Not sure why specifically - but one reason might be that in order to host one you had to post your full name and home addess on line. Hopefully in the future they will figure out a way to host a party and keep your persona info private until you make contact with attendees.

With that said, the conference call was great and inspiring and a powerful reminder of how many of us out there who are really determined to get the truth out.

8. Attended house party in Vancouver, WA
Over 40 attendees, standing room only. One couple I spoke with were Republican, outraged that not only were we lied into a war, but the MSM was negligent and even withheld information from the public. They want a class action law suit against the corporate media, and they want THEM to pay for the war!
