A typical day starts with an 8:30 morning staff meeting, and it does not conclude until between 10 p.m. and midnight. She has 120 fulltime staff working under her, with 13 offices across the state.
Asked why people from Black Mountain should consider Dean for the position of president, Karen saw a number of similarities between the people of New Hampshire and the residents of Western North Carolina.
“Similar to people in New Hampshire, people in the Swannanoa Valley care about healthcare for the family, for their kids, and they care about jobs. Like in New Hampshire, North Carolina has lost a lot of manufacturing jobs,” Karen said.
“People know Howard Dean for being against the Iraq war, but he started his campaign to give health benefits to everyone in the country.”
