Senate Changes Line of Succession

The Senate approved a bill Tuesday to raise the homeland security secretary from last to eighth place in the presidential line of succession, just after the attorney general.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Mike DeWine (news, bio, voting record), R-Ohio, passed without objection just before the chamber adjourned. The companion House bill, sponsored by Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., is pending before the Judiciary and Government Reform committees.

If the bill also passes the House, the order of those in line to assume the presidency if
President Bush is unable to serve would be:

(here is the entire list of names)

1. Hell, if seven other Prezes' had already
taken the dirt nap or the 25th, I can't imagine that anyone would want to become # 8.

What an honor...

9. Like most things congress does, it isnt.
If the top 7 people in the white house went down, we would need to have emergency elections.

This is just a way for congresspeople to seem like they are doing something involving homeland security.

8. yes, but notice the top seven are in the tight cabal
* Vice President
* Speaker of the House of Representatives
* President Pro Tempore of the Senate
* Secretary of State
* Secretary of the Treasury
* Secretary of Defense
* Attorney General

From the secty of the interior on down, they are appointees but not in the inner corrupt circle, and Homeland Security is.
