OK, so what was wrong with what Hillary said?
Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 02:23 PM by LoZoccolo
Is it really just the fact that she's doing something in the DLC? Or is it something that I should actually pay attention to? I'd like to give this a somewhat fair hearing before I go on another mass-ignore (or as I sometimes call it, "reclaim my time").

I'd prefer people give me a portion of her speech uninterpreted, if they'd like to convince me.

1. I think it's a combination of her position, the GTA thing, and her '08 run
She's not speaking from a neutral platform, but from the DLC's platform, asking for unity for an organization that has done nothing but divide the Democratic Party.

It's on the heels of her laughable grandstanding on Grand Theft Auto, which was really, really stupid.

On top of it all, she is clearly angling for the Presidency, and her motivations in appealing for unity are completely transparent.

So her words aren't as important as the context. If her speech was released as a press release, it probably wouldn't seem so condescending. But throw the DLC into the mix, and she becomes the anti-Christ.

2. I ask you to give me a reason...
...besides just a simple association to the DLC, and you give me this?

She's been a DLC member for how many years? And she's just now getting "fuck you"s?

3. it's not the DLC itself, it's the issues
Basically, pure corporate sellout stuff, plus gibberish like the GTA "Hot Coffee" mod, and objections to pushing a platform contrary to the views of Democratic voters. While "moving to the center" may have the appearance of trying to capture more votes, it's intensely alienating Democrats like myself who are rather less than amused with what appears to be aping the Republican platform.

4. See I still see nothing.
Nobody's talking about anything specific; I would imagine it's because they're primarily followers of everyone else in trying to prove they're so left by blanketly putting down the DLC. Not compelling, and never a reason for making a political decision.

11. well, I already went over it point by point for my own sake
The effort required to construct an essay to rebut it is more than I can afford. I am holding down a salaried job (i.e. massive unpaid overtime).

6. Yeah, I read that, that's why I'm considering "reclaiming my time".
Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 02:35 PM by LoZoccolo
That's pretty much what made me seriously consider it.

I'm sure she'll work hard to get someone who writes her a "fuck you" letter on her side. Like I'm sure she won't think that you'll just do it again two years later or anything. Because it's not like you're emotionally immature or whatever.

15. So this is just self gratification?
So yeah, I feel like I am entitled to a fuck you hillary every now and then. Cause until she start helping the _____ is wasting our time.

That is, it seems.

17. Let me rephrase until she starts acting like one of the most high profile
characters in the OPPOSITION party, yes she is wasting our time.

Here's a harder question for you to answer why should we care about Hillary or the DLC?

Really why?

8. The whole Grand Theft Auto thing was a mistake for so many reasons.

For one thing, it sure hasn't earned Lieberman any points, and he's been doing it for years. But for another, one of her most valuable voting block is, well, the same demographic that comprises the gaming market (22-29 year olds are now the number one consumer of console and PC games). So they paid attention. Specificly, they paid a lot of negative attention. And they were kind of annoyed. Witness the outstanding artwork and the completely-incomprehensible-to-the-outsider humor over at VGCats, which is perhaps one of the most revered video game centric webcomics around:

(WARNING: geek humor, blurred nudity, crossdressing, nazi propaganda, implied elf-on-cow-thing sex, and suggested felating follow. Yes, all in the same comic. And yet it IS Safe For Work!)

12. Well, people have given you some answers
Which you have brushed off. So, it appears you're not looking for answers and simply want to start a fight about it. So why not just say that?

Because of Democracy For America.

RWers hate her. Non-DLC LWers hate her. We can unite people now.
