Bolton was one of the people the neo-cons forced the Powell's State Department to take on (to keep an eye on Powell and probably report back)!!!!!!!!

John R. Bolton was sworn in as Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security on May 11, 2001.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Bolton was Senior Vice President of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). AEI is a nonprofit public policy center dedicated to preserving and strengthening the foundations of freedom through research education, and open debate.

1. Sounds Plausible, but
is this your speculation or there a story? And which State Department memos would these be?

2. We can scuttle W.'s mid-term appointment if this gets out.

The information about Valerie Wilson (Plame) as the CIA operative who "sent" her husband to Niger was in the State Department memo given to Powell in Air Force One on a trip to Africa. Remember?

Everyone was wondering who leaked the information to other administration officals? Look no further. Bolton.

3. Who can find out if Bolton was on that trip to Africa with Powell, 2003?
Even if he wasn't, his title was Under Secretary of State for Arms Control. Wouldn't he have also been given this information by someone on the trip or independently?

9. If you go back and read the articles on the Plame memo it says
that the Plame/Niger memo was requested of the State Department and sent to Air Force One VIA THE WHITE HOUSE.

I'm been trying to point this out for weeks. The memo went thru the White House (presumably thru Cheney and Rove) before it was sent to Air Force One via secure transmission.

10. Here is the NY Times quote and link:
"When Mr. Wilson's Op-Ed article appeared on July 6, 2003, a Sunday, Richard L. Armitage, then deputy secretary of state, called Carl W. Ford Jr., the assistant secretary for intelligence and research, at home, a former State Department official said. Mr. Armitage asked Mr. Ford to send a copy of the memorandum to Mr. Powell, who was preparing to leave for Africa with Mr. Bush, the former official said. Mr. Ford sent it to the White House for transmission to Mr. Powell."

11. Great point.
I've also speculated on Cheney's office as primary discoverers and leakers since they would have felt somewhat guilty for initiating the trip to Niger in the first place.

Libby may have made a few calls, etc.

12. Also, please note that the article says that Armitage called Ford
and asked him to send a COPY of the memo. This says to me that the memo already existed and they knew exactly who Valerie and Joe Wilson were.

The question is, who requested and created the memo to begin with and when did they do it?

4. Prometheus had a brother, ya know
Prometheus was gifted with forsight, while his brother, Epimetheus, was gifted with hindsight.

Bolton is a horrible man, capable of horrible things. But this is what a significant number of repukes consider a "man's sort of man" -- a warrior, a knight templar...

This information should be made public, but almost certainly won't. Journalists are crunching the numbers, and many of them decided, perhaps prematurely, that Bolton had the numbers on his side.

Journalists should go back to reporting the news, and not playing advocacy roles. This is significantly news-worthy in my opinion... But that isn't going to stop Bush from getting his way.

7. That's how I remember he testified to the grand jury!
The news questions of two days ago concerning Bolton's testimony to a confirmation panel that he had not testified in from of a grand jury. Newspeople were wondering if he gave this testimony before or after going to Fitzgerald's grand jury.

Wow. We got him!

13. Pretty sure I saw Shuster on MSNBC say Bolton lied, but not about GJ
Questionnaire said *any* investigation, and he gave testimony in an internal investigation of intel handling on WMD/Iraq war stuff.

So yeah he was 'inaccurate', but I don't think it's true that he testified before Fitzgerald's GJ...or at least it isn't publicly known.

15. Anyways it's essentially the same thing - as very few in corp media
will acknowledge.

They always talk about 'outing', show the vanity fair picture, but don't mention DSM, 'fixing' intelligence, or WMD.

sigh...
