my backwards aunt and I got into a political debate yesterday...
got into a huge discussion yesterday.

everytime she tried to point, I counterpointed and all she could say was where did you hear that?

tried to say reinquist should retire so bush could put a true conservative on the bench...I pointed out he would put whom ever Karl Rove and co told him to put case in point Roberts and what he has done to further the pnac....(Thanks Randi Rhodes)

she was like whellll I neverrrrrrr hearrrrrd that...I had documents ready!~

then she wanted to argue about abortion. She asked my position. I told her this

"its not something I would do and I don't think it should be a form of birth control, but it should NOT be in the political arena" "I have a 14 year old girl and I want that option legal in cases of rape ect..."

she said why do you think it shoudln't be in the political arena. I said
"95 percent of those arguing against abortion will NEVER have to make that decision in the first place ... will NEVER have to live in fear of being raped (unless justice is servecd and they end up in prison)

she was like don't you think they are championing for the unborn...I said no if they cared so much for the unborn, they would take care of them after they were born, but they don't as evidenced by the cuts in social services.

I then asked if she knew abortion rates were much higher under W then they were under clinton????? she said no...where did you hear that. I said I have it in my files from three different sources if you want, I can send them to you...

I then asked what the bible said about running up debt you couldn't pay for. She said the bible talks about not being debtors....I asked then if bushy was bad because the deficit is the worst than any of the previous presidents combined....

she didn't want to play anymore...????

4. I love arguing that abortions have increased under W
after steadily declining under Clinton. The pro-life bunch from where I live can only do a Porky Pig impression trying to explain that one.

9. The Bible forbids usury, but these parasites live off of capital gains
...and inheritance. It's how Pharoahs are created.

20. Urukagina
The variety of populous, civilized life produced differing opinions, and dissent -- something authoritarians would never be able to extinguish. Sumerians complained. One wrote that he was a "thoroughbred steed" but drawing a cart carrying "reeds and stubble." Another complained in writing of the stupidity in one city taking enemy lands and then the enemy coming and taking its lands. Rather than docility, people in the city of Lagash instigated history's first recorded revolt. This came after Lagash's rulers had increased local taxes and restricted personal freedoms. Lagash's bureaucrats had grown in wealth. And the people of Lagash resented this enough that they overthrew their king and brought to power a god-fearing ruler named Urukagina, who eliminated excessive taxation and rid the city of usurers, thieves and murderers -- the first known reforms.

12. You are so right on this point.
'she was like don't you think they are championing for the unborn...I said no if they cared so much for the unborn, they would take care of them after they were born, but they don't as evidenced by the cuts in social services.'

This is what I always bitch about. There are so many children who are in need of home but, if they don't fit the criteria of perfectly healthy, white, blue-eyed blonde the poor darlings can fugedaboutit.

Thanks for enlightening your Aunt. She may not ever tell you but, you've given her somethings to think about.

24. They don't even take care of them "before" they're born. I don't
see them advocating for affordable, low-cost pre-natal care. Or nutrition for expectant mothers and young children.

And yes, I know about the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children)Program, but it's just a drop in teh bucket. Better than nothing but not much better.

When we argue with these know-nothings and ditto-heads, it is MEGA-helpful to have facts at our fingertips. Unlike with ann coulter and all her purported "footnotes," WE have the truth on our side. Not some fabrication like she does. Fight 'em with the FACTS, folks!

BTW - check out this thread, which flows along in the same current, and hit her up with "A Day in the Life of Joe Republican":

19. oh yeah way to go
I love to smack around Republicans.

I regularly used to give my friend e-mail beatings. He hasn't messed with me in over 8 months. It helps that I'm a writer too. I take his own words and systematically destroy him with them. It is brutal. I have a friend who I went to college with who tried some Freeper shit through e-mail on me a few years ago, I took all of my books and research and annihilated him with his very words. I haven't heard from him since. I know that sounds harsh and maybe we aren't really friends anymore, but some people need to be put in their place. You did your thing, so way to go.

23. It isn't so simple as that, actually
The philosopher Buriden illustrated this with his logical ass. Imagine an ass (donkey) which only makes decisions based on strict first-order predicate logic. For whatever reason, this ass finds himself equidistant from two equally succulent bales of hay. According to Buriden, this ass will starve, since he has absolutely no logical justification to move towards either of the two bales.

This gets to the issue of (com)passion, and why and how it permits us to 'teleologically suspend the ethical.'
