US in plan to bypass Kyoto protocol

The United States and Australia have been working in secret for 12 months on an alternative to the Kyoto protocol and will reveal today a joint pact with China, India and South Korea to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

The deal, which will be formally announced by the US deputy secretary of state Robert Zoellick in Laos today when the five "partners" hold a press conference, comes a month after Tony Blair struggled at the G8 summit to get George Bush to commit to any action on climate change.

The US, Australia and China are big coal exporters and are anxious to develop and export clean coal technologies.

The existence of the pact appeared to come as a surprise to Downing Street yesterday.

guess the criminal bushgang has used up Blair

how's the money going to flow around this faux Kyoto?

1. A commentator on BBC America ripped it to shreds yesterday
He basically said it was a useless fluff exercise, the point of which was to continue ignoring the problems it's supposed to address, and that in typical * fashion, had no real plans or funding.

Refreshing to hear, to say the least. I wish the MSM here would grab its collective nuts and call it the way it is.

2. Nothing more than a trade show in green drag
Sure, some minor reductions will come from some of the technologies - maybe - but in an environment where 6.5 billion tons of anthropogenic carbon beyond the absorptive capacity of the biosphere was entering the atmosphere every year TEN YEARS AGO it's just more of the kind of greenwash voluntary bullshit we've come to expect from Chimpy.
