Who can get DNC to pay attention to what's happening to Hackett?
Democrats need another symbolic victory...Getting Howard Dean to chair the DNC was one. Maybe getting a victory against big RNC money in the Hackett - Schmitt race would be #2.

Doesn't the DNC have money to help democratic candidates? We NEED good democratic people in office --- who knows how we go about getting bigger help? (The RNC clearly realizes the stakes...witness their willingness to throw their money at the race).

4. Just saw that...
sent them an email to let them know where I stand on this. Here's my letter:

Sometimes it's the small things that count. In Ohio, Paul Hackett is receiving the blunt force of RNC money aimed at smearing and defeating him. I am hopeful that the DNC realizes the stakes - not only in terms of taking a much needed seat, but also in terms of scoring a symbolic victory of the "people" vs. the corporatocracy of the RNC.

I am hopeful that you already know the need to back this race and need no prodding to do all you can to help this Iraq veteran to beat back the lies and the smears that the RNC is now funding.

Although today I cannot donate, I have been and remain a supporter of the DNC. Many others, however, are pledging even as I write this. Please know that this is important to every single American who loves democracy.

6. You are really worried about Dean and the DNC today.
They are supporting Hackett, he is on the front page....they sent out a letter today mentioning him.

Dean is very busy, the DNC is getting organized. And DU is flipping out today.

10. Yes, I admit it. I decided that after a couple days worth of DLC debate
it was time to turn my attention to something productive. Like I said somewhere else, even though I did track the Dean/Mehlman appearances they vanished from memory during past few days (Clinton's alignment with DLC and the subsequent discussions here didn't help any). Thus my question about Dean.

And, I hadn't gotten my email from DNC yet so wasn't up to snuff on what they were doing for Hackett. But I see any action we can stir up on his behalf, on behalf of ANY candidate going up against the republicans as being a worthy effort. I want so much to see this gang overthrown.

3. Here's a snip from an e-mail I got today from the DNC-
The organizers we've hired have also made huge personal commitments -- we have asked every one of them to come on for a minimum obligation of four years. They left their jobs and committed to stay with us no matter what.

That's not how things are usually done in the political world -- in this business, people don't usually stay in the same job for very long. There's always another campaign to work on, or some organization gearing up for the next election.

Until now, the national party has encouraged this system. We have made the same mistake every election cycle -- during the last few months before the presidential election we build a huge organization, and then dismantle it as quickly as possible.

That's not how we're going to do it anymore. You mandated change, and we're moving fast down the road of building a permanent infrastructure in every single state.

But we can't change the way we do business without changing the way we finance our party. That's why every one of us that believes in changing the way things work needs to make the Democracy Bond commitment -- it's the only way it will happen:

http://www.democrats.org/democracybonds

What do these organizers do? Let me give you an example. In Ohio next Tuesday there will be an election to fill a vacant seat in Congress. It's a heavily Republican district -- the Republican who left Congress to take a Bush job won with over 70 percent of the vote last year. Republicans outnumber Democrats two to one.

In years past, no one would have bothered to even try here. But we have a candidate who decided to fight. His name is Paul Hackett -- he's a former Marine Major, and if elected he'll be the first and only Iraq war veteran in Congress.

And he's not the only one who decided to fight -- grassroots Democrats on the ground, in the district and across the country have been energized by Hackett's fresh ideas and straight talk. Small donations have poured in through the campaign's website and volunteers are showing up at campaign headquarters around the clock.

Our organizers -- who were already on the ground in Ohio -- helped bring things together. Hundreds of volunteers have been turning out to canvass the district because the network was already in place.

Whether we win or lose this election, the work our organizers have been doing all over Ohio helped make this an opportunity for Democrats to come together and fight. That means that we will have a stronger operation to turn out more Democratic votes when Ohio elects a governor and a Senator next year -- and more votes when Ohio goes for the Democratic presidential candidate in 2008.

This is just one congressional district in one state. We need to make this happen everywhere -- and we need to make it happen for the long term. That's why all of us need to make the Democracy Bond commitment:

5. thanks for posting...I visited DNC site and sent them an email in support
of such action.

Wish I had money to send them - but right now even $20 is too much to let go of. We really need to keep the focus on winning more seats, and show any subsidiary groups that it's actions not fancy footwork that will win this party back.

Nothing against fancy footwork. It's just that some groups are more concerned about how they're perceived by republicans (and some group of "swing voters") than in how they are taking back our democracy.

7. Not being a smart-ass: Ask John Kerry...
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 06:30 PM by Totally Committed
from what I understand, he still has a whole war chest full.

Maybe some kind-hearted Kerry-ite with an "in" could take it to the man or his people?

If not, call anyone in the Democratic leadership or the Senate, and call the DNC. Talk to anyone and see what they can do for him. I will try if all of you will.
