Hilarious technical bungle on CNN a couple minutes ago...
I'm sure somebody punched up the wrong feed or tape, it popped up with no intro and only lasted about 20 seconds. Wolfie says to Dr. Dean "but we don't make the news, you did that speech all by yourself". Dean replied "yes but you chose to play it six hundred and seventy-three times" Blitzer just sat there with the most panicked look I've seen in years! Talk about a deer in the headlights...after about 10 seconds of dead silence from the moron they cut it off. ROFL

1. I know Dean pulled 673 out of his head
but I actually think he's low-balling the number of times CNN has replayed it.

8. I saw that and Wolfie was defensive...Dean told him just as it is...
He said they offer some news, with a lot of entertainment...the man lays it on the line. I love it.

Wolfe has prostituted his credentials to be an info=tainment talking head.

33. CNNI not only replayed it, they doctored it with several reversed edits
showing the same section over and over and over, geez, it must have been six or seven times.

Wolfie, you DO make the news. That's the problem. You may be a lot of things, but you're no journalist.

2. You can't BUY that type of publicity!!
OMG! That is why I LOVE Howard Dean. He has the spunk to say something like that to Blitzer! Too funny! Might we also add that they didn't use the ambient crowd sounds when they played that clip, so it sounded even freakier?? I LOVE live television!

And duh.. you SO make the news!

36. Isn't that generous of CNN ..
"Maybe they're giving Dean another chance to stay alive."

Are you saying CNN has irresponsibly chosen to neglect their societal duty to preselect freely elected public servants?

37. Time Warner loves this man. They and NPR have been his biggest supporters.
They have never given any kind of coverage which would require him to spend more money to get out an opposite message, as far as I can tell. In fact, they've helped him save money by continually projecting exactly the message Dean is chosing to send at any given time, including the YEARRRGGGHH! Notice that has totally removed from the public debate (1) discussion about Kerry and Edwards's performance, (2) Dean's lack of performance, and (3) discussion of Dean's policy weaknesses.

40. hmmm .. I guess you don't have AOL
Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 04:58 PM by drfemoe
AOL/Time Warner had a horrendous red eyed, fist throwing, mouth wide open, face contored picture on their front page on THURSDAY 1/22 (three days after) with a link to the "story" which went directly to a sound clip of the YEARRRGGGHH ONLY. No option. You click the link, you get the screech.

On Sunday, 1/25, NPR played the screech ONLY in a sound segment of all the candidates. Edwards and Kerry's acceptance speeches had crowd cheers in the background. Kerry: "You've made me the ... come-back KERRY!" Dean's was a SCREECH, sans crowd cheers. I don't recall what Edwards said, but the crowd was cheering.

If you were in the crowd that night, you didn't even hear the YEARRRGGGHH over the crowd's cheering. >> http://www.idiomstudio.com/

If these guys are helping Gov Dean, I suggest it is quite unintentional.

It was a an editing flub. Another time they showed it, either Dean kept talking or Wolf had another question right away.

apparently they paused the tape the other time. It was funny in any case though. ;-)

...and the media whores are running scared.

Maybe there's some good people in the CNN control room who are "accidentally" leaking stuff like this and the "Does this work? I didn't think so" picture of Junior a couple months ago.

27. Somewhere in the bowels of CNN , there is a tape of 2/1/00
Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 02:33 PM by SoCalDem
of BUSH giving a very similar speech to his supporters after McCain cleaned his clock.. The only difference?? He could not actually name the states, but he yelled,,.."the next state, and the next state, and the state after that, etc."..

I have been looking for days for that clip, but the online sites that have it possibly listed are mostly "cannot be founds"..:(

I would dearly love for someone to find that tape before Tuesday..

In all fairness, they should have found it and played it next to Dean's speech..

The circumstances were identical.. Both led in the polls and were "sure" they would win, and yet , got beaten badly..

at searching for that kind of thing can give you some advice. I'm terrible at that kind of thing myself. When things go into archives, it can be hard to access them.

Edit: Maybe you could send CNN and email and ask them how to find it. They would probably oblige.

34. They've obviously cleaned up the exchange
I didn't see the original, but they just replayed it, the female anchor interviewing Wolf, trying to spin it as another example of Dean's anger. Wolf's reaction to Dean's accusations of the media creating the news must have been shortened by editing. He still looked flustered, but it most likely wasn't for as long a time as you portray. Wolf said he was just defending "our profession." Definitely edited.
