"The greatest strategic blunder in American history" (-Paul Craig Roberts)
We have run out of troops and money, the rest of the world has run out of patience with our stupidity, and the upper regions of the Bush administration may be crumbling under the pressure of a prosecutor's investigations and eroding public support.

Bush administration neocons such as Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, Libby, along with their cheerleaders at Fox "News", the Weekly Standard, the Wall Street Journal editorial page, National Review, and the New York Times' Judith Miller will go down in history as the architects and enablers of the greatest strategic blunder in American history. The neocon dream of conquering the Middle East for Israel and destroying Islam as a force is now in history's trash heap of failed adventures along with such miscalculations as Hitler's march into Russia and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor...

2. There have been other horrible blunders, but none so potentially fatal
I don't know how we will recover from this one. It wasn't just that the strategy was bad, it was that the ideology behind the strategy was stupid, and ultimately, self-destructive.

8. Good point.
I'm terrified his idea of taking on Iran will be nuclear, though.

3. This will rank as one of the worst in Modern world history.
The entire globe is involved. And the bush idiots haven't given up on weaponizing space so we can compound it by an order of magnitude we can't imagine.

Anyone who voted Aye or supported this travesty should be linked right with it! :nuke:

9. This reminds me of the Soviets trying to take Afghanistan
That folly was more instrumental in the collapse of the Soviet empire than Reagan telling Gorbachev to "tear down this wall." I hope we fare better than they did.

13. The bush cabal has stacked the deck against US success.
US leaves Afghanistan to get Saddam. For the rest of history, the bush name and US deeds will be linked to that of Saddam Hussein. That may be the most bitter irony of all.

After bush and his street gang are out of office, we as a nation will recover! :patriot:

16. on a national level of its impact, more like Napoleon invading Russia
yeap, USSR and afghanistan is similar, but unlike the USSR, the US now and the France of Napoleon both were in relative good national economic health before the tragic expeditions eastward. like Napoleon with Russia, the US invasion of iraq will likely be pointed to by future historians as the event that forced America into rapid decline.

for this, may george w bush burn in hell.

23. The American empire will collapse just as the Soviet empire did
America had a unique historical opportunity to make a significant contribution for the betterment of the world at the end of the Cold War. We pissed it away!

Bush's crusade in Iraq has accelerated the fall of the American empire. We will see it fall within our lifetimes!

Peace.

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - How ever long it takes, the day must come when tens of millions of caring individuals peacefully but persistently defy the dictator, deny the corporatists their cash flow, and halt the evil being done in Iraq and in all the other places the Bu$h neoconster regime is destroying civilization and the environment in the name of "America."

15. blunder? . . . that's much too mild . . .
the Iraq invasion/occupation is far worse than a mere blunder . . . it's an international crime and a crime against humanity . . . worse than murder, worse than rape, worse than embezzlement, it encompasses all three and then some . . .

a more accurate description might be "the greatest war crime in American history" . . .

20. His Opposition is Very Important
I had read many of PCR's annoying Reaganite editorials in Business Week during the 80s. I stared in disbelief seeing his name for the first time attached to an anti-war article.

A partisan standoff will only lead to more of the same. The tide will be turned by opposition from within the GOP.

and I'm sure that was his plan with us too. Bush is just too stupid to play with these guys, but the sad thing is we'll all lose.

22. What about Central America?
Wouldn't you consider our combined actions in Central America as the biggest strategic blunder that the US has committed?

24. No, Central America is our playground, we have
done very little there strategically... the Middle East is not only far away and difficult to oontrol, we don't even have a mandate of citizens from there or a shared history as we do in CA.

Have we made mistakes in CA? Of course. Big ones? Of course. But they are not insurmountable.

The insanity in Iraq is a huge problem. And a BIG mistake.

25. Calling it a "blunder" suggests that what was done was done in error.
On the contrary, these hoodlums have been in govt. and ripping off businesses for years and knew exactly what they were doing. Everything was planned and carried out perfectly if the goal was to soak the US dry, destroy the social/finacial infrastructure, erode civil liberties and make all their croneys filthy rich! Mission accomplished as far as I can see.
