1. Will This Work?
BLITZER: David Kay says that your question over the intelligence community, the CIA and also owe the president, the administration (UNINTELLIGIBLE).

H. DEAN: Well, I suspect there's more to it than that. I suspect -- I have talked to somebody from -- it was a former member of the CIA who said that the vice president came down and sat down with lower level members of the CIA and criticized them to their face, the vice president of the United States, for not writing intelligence reports the way he thought they ought to be written. So you have the spectacle of the vice president of the United States trying to intimidate intelligence reporters into giving the kind of information he wanted given to the president. I think there's a lot of explaining to be done, and I think the vice president and the president owes an explanation, not just the CIA.

5. He set the standard
Without Dean I'm not sure the Democrats would be doing as well in the polls against Bush as they are today. His hard hitting critique of Bush has pushed the other candidates in this race to do likewise. Win or lose this is what Dean accomplished. He deserves great credit for this. He also has a strong record to present to the country from his years in Vermont and no other Democrat, sans Kucinich and Sharpton, in the race can compete against Bush on the issue of Iraq like Howard Dean can.

6. Welcome to DU, bigskydem
When I heard Howard Dean say last JANUARY that he couldn't wait to debate George Bush, I gave him my first $100. Dean was licking his chops in anticipation and it made me hungry as well. That was the first money I had ever given to any politician.

Under the asses of all of these candidates. If it weren't for him, this would be politics as usual. His relationship w/Judy seems very genuine as well. As a man, I can truly respect him for the high regard in which he holds her. Men should take notes, when you're with a woman that's smarter than you and is still a saint that cares about you despite your faults, give her the ultimate in respect. That is what Howard appears to have done and it's what all of us men should do.

42. I read you website
You know that Dean is so associated with the Iraq War issue I did not know he was for universal health care.

What is getting me is that the airwaves are full of the network pundits, but they never sit down one on one and talk to the candidate for any length of time.

The media made such a distortion of the SCREAM, that it not only made him look like a madman, it ignored what he is advocating.

Which I am not for any of the Senators because they have had their chance to take to the Senate floor and introduce legislation. Health care is one huge issue in a system that is broken even for people with jobs. Seniors that have age discrimination to fight and find it hard to get health care should jump all over universal health care. I know I do.

another:
expressing sympathy with depth of feelings of "right-to-life" people, "but, it just seems to me that the government telling women..." when they can have children or not...is like the taliban telling womyn what to do, how to act, etc....

Sorry to the other candidates, but that's how I feel.

You don't have to worry for a minute about what he will do WRT womens' rights.

Not sure if you are a minority, but he also gets that.

He really believes everyone is created equal.

I liked what he said tonight:

#1

Because Howard Dean speaking unscripted and from the heart tonight on C-SPAN caused at minimum 2 Kerry and 1 Clark supporting neighbors to call my wife and pledge their support to Howard Dean. People understand him once they have a chance to really hear him and tonight they are moving in droves. Just the way the country will this November.

Good Night DU

29. On Dean's suit.
I don't live in Vermont any more, but I do tell my friends in Chicago that, unlike here, in Vermont there are limits to how much you can dress up. My example is always that even the governor can't even wear a three-piece suit, because it's too dressy. I've been saying this for years, and of course it's Dr. Dean that I'm referring to. A very human guy, and Governor of a very human state, beautiful but with a self-reliant attitude toward finance. I'm not surprised the campaign had to convince him to buy the "fancy" suit. How much do Bushy's suits cost, about $2-3k apiece, isn't it?
So, my number one reason for someone making the final splurge: Dean is like us, he lives like us, he 'gets it', and we really need him as President, starting yesterday.

THink of how dull this electrion would've been without him. And think of how dull it will be if it goes back to politics as usual.

I know that's a shallow answer, but the more serious ones have already been mentioned.

(DK and Al Sharpton have spiced things up too, but not in the same way.)

Because he's the first white politician I've heard speak about race and racism in the way he does. You get when he's speaking that he *gets* it and is earnest about learning how to fix it, and is not just spouting some polished 'let all hold hands until I win this thing' nonsense.

He's the first candidate I've ever given money to, ever.

43. Dean's the real thing
He's made me proud to be a Democrat.

He's made the other candidates proud to be Democrats too!

He's made Terry McAuliffe shed his pink tutu. (Terry explained aWol on TV).

If you doubt and start to fall for Edwards' smooth talk just (which it tempting) just think about the war.

Bush lied. LIED. LIED. LIED. Intentionally, with malice aforethought.

Edwards won't admit it. Kerry won't admit it.

Only Dean and Clark have really come out and pointed out the lying lies of the lying lying liars, corrupt, evil b*****ds that they are.

The chimperor has NO clothes. We don't wake up the public by just pointing out that he doesn't have nice clothes, or that maybe he has some shorts on. The Chimperor has NO clothes. We have to say it.

49. #1 reason
Vermont was the first state to institute a statewide protocol for abuse investigations. In return, Vermont saw a 45% decline in physical and sexual abuse of children. This included a 64% decline in physical abuse victims ages 0-3 and a 43% decline in physical abuse victims ages 0-6.

His policies make this world a better place.
