Bush: Less Popular Than Nixon During Watergate

Via Atrios, an American Research Group poll released today shows that George Bush has dropped to staggering new lows:

George W. Bush’s overall job approval ratings have dropped from a month ago even as Americans who approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president are turning more optimistic about their personal financial situations according to the latest survey from the American Research Group. Among all Americans, 36% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 58% disapprove. When it comes to Bush’s handling of the economy, 33% approve and 62% disapprove.

Among Americans registered to vote, 38% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 56% disapprove, and 36% approve of the way Bush is handling the economy and 60% disapprove.

For a little perspective, recall that Richard Nixon’s approval rating in the summer of 1973 (when the Watergate scandal was in full swing) was 39%. Compared to Bush, that’s downright sunny.

2. Just wait. They aren't just sitting on their asses in Crawford.
They're planning a massiveretroactive-justification PR push on the run-up to 9-11X4. The Nuremberg Ra... I mean Freedom March, will spike his approval back up amongst the mind-changers.

4. I've earned political capital
...and I intend to spend it.

Do you remember that little utterance right after the 2004 election? Well, I wonder what he's bought with that capital? What does he have to show for it?

Enquiring minds want to see him publicly humiliated.

5. I always thought 38% was the floor.
I guess blind loyalists can tolerate phony wars and a $7 trillion debt but $3 gas just pisses them off.

8. Sinking, Sinking, and Now Finally, No Way Back for Them
Thank God; I feel like I understand my country again. I knew the American paople were not really stupid or criminally corrupt, only lied to and not paying attention. No wonder the corporate media censors us completely--as soon as any sustained coverage of the truth gets out, whether it was the outraged response against Bush's attempted murder on Social Security, or the bizarre manipulations of the Terri Schiavo tragedy, or now the Iraq disaster and despicable treatment of Cindy Sheehan as she waits forever, or the rising gas prices choking the middle class and poor to death--finally, since they can't hide and "spin" forever, this is the end of you, Bush.

9. Mandate? So sorry, Jeff Gannon has left the building
after his 200 or so visits to the Bush White House (according to secret service records). So the Republicans will need to find another self-advertised male prostitute of the Republican persuasion to fulfill this mandate.
