Will Bush Return to White House?
Can you imagine the total insensitivity and callousness if Bush stays on vacation at the 'Lazy W' ranchette while New Orleans is destroyed?

Just as a matter of symbolism, a president should be at the White House during a national emergency.

5. They will try to do something symbolic -- they would like to exploit
it as much as they exploited 9/11, I am sure, to elevate his poll numbers. Probably won't work but Rove will try.

9. He will surely take credit for saving many lives with this wise advice...

"President Bush on Sunday urged people living in the path of Hurricane Katrina to take
the storm extremely seriously and follow orders to evacuate to higher ground..."

He's already in a majorly pissy way, and shortening his ffive-week, taxpayer funded stay at the Imperial Pig Farm Upon Crawford will honk him off even more.

14. The Imperial Pig Farm has wonderful nuance to it; too bad the hogs are
loose. But no matter the catastrophe, they will surely above all else attempt to save their bacon. You cannot hope to eliminate all that pork, or even render their actions sanely. And as for using everything except the squeal, their squeals of dismay are what I would most enjoy hearing as the packing trucks load them away.

13. "Al Qaeda Determined to Strike in the U.S." didn't get him to the WH.
Why should a mere hurricane compel him to cut short his all-important vacation at El Rancho Puerco? Only something of the magnitude of Terry Schiavo -- something that would score beaucoup brownie points with his nutjob freeper base -- would get him back on AF1 in his footie pajamas to sign some bit of unconstitutional legislation. A bunch of stranded or drowned black Democrats? I think not.

15. He has already been callous this morning.
He could not make a call to the people who are threatened by the hurricane. This was not important enough for him to speak on this subject alone. He had to spend half of his address concerning Iraq.

Difficult to believe, really. The Iraqi people are more important than New Orleans.

16. My guess is Bush will spend the remaining term at Camp David
That is a remote location, and it will be difficult to set up
a vigil and camp such as in Crawford, TX.

18. He's coming to San Diego tomorrow (Monday night)
extending his vacation to the Hotel Del Coronado, playground of the rich and famous. Quite a contrast to those poor folks trapped in New Orleans as the city floods.

Also he's speaking to WWII veterans Tuesday a.m. at North Island.

We're planning some appropriate welcoming events (peace vigil outside his hotel, plus a rally outside North Island).

Maybe we need some new signs:

BUSH CUT HURRICANE FUNDING--
PREZ TO NEW ORLEANS: DROWN!

20. Good call
Pretty good call on that one. Although I hate to see people making a fuss over the President's vacation time (who cares, really?) I think you're right on.

21. You ask, "Who cares, really?"
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 04:05 AM by theHandpuppet
I CARE.

When tens of thousands of young men and women are fighting and dying every day over in Iraq and Afghanistan, I expect more than a President who has spent a record amount of time fucking off at his ranch, pedaling his bike, holding barbecues for rich donor friends and posing for photo ops with his chain saw. I'll bet those troops would love a vacation right now instead of a other tour of duty in a war zone!

When millions of children in this country are without health care and millions of their parents without jobs or hope, I care.

When this country finds itself on the verge of implosion due to soaring national debt while American jobs are being outsourced to the lowest bidder, I care.

When millions of American families find themselves working ever longer, harder hours while seeing their benefits cut, and costs keep rising even while the gap between rich and poor grows ever wider, I care.

Oh, I could go on... and on. So you hate to see people "making a fuss" over Dubya's record-breaking vacation time? (Unlike you, I do not refer to him as my "President") There is nothing about this man that in the least way gives us any clue that he is in touch with the common man and woman in America, or cares one whit about the troops he has ordered to fight and die for his personal obsession. This is a man who has, literally, referred to the "have mores" as his base, and while Cindy Sheehan stood vigil outside his ranch -- wanting to know for what "noble cause" her son had died -- Bush was busy throwing a lavish barbecue for his most generous campaign donors.

Get off your bike and GET BACK TO WORK, you lazy-ass excuse for a Commander-in-Chief! Thousands of your citizens are suffering right now in the Gulf and you'd rather spend your time at a posh resort?

You have a job. It's office can be found in the District of Columbia, on Pennsylvania Ave. Get your ass back there and at least act like you give a damn about this country and its people!
