Two election workers indicted in presidential recount
Two Cuyahoga County Board of Elections workers were indicted Tuesday on charges of misconduct, including unlawfully obtaining possession of ballots during the 2004 presidential election recount.

Rosie Grier and Kathleen Dreamer were indicted on six counts each, according to the Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office. The charges carry a maximum prison sentence of 18 months.

"I think the grand jury did what was supported by the evidence: That there was some problems in the way the 2004 presidential recount was conducted," Baxter told the Sandusky Register. Grier and Dreamer were indicted on charges of failure to perform duties imposed upon them by law; misconduct of board of election employees; knowingly disobeying elections law; unlawfully obtaining possession of ballots/ballot boxes or pollbooks; and unlawfully opening or permitting the opening of a sealed package containing ballots.

1. It's about time! Thanks. I'll forward this to our local grand jury,
since our election officials have been doing some of the same stuff.

Actually I forwarded this to a friend who has already sent some materials to our Grand Jury, the DA, and the AG regarding illegal election activities by officials here.

19. I have an idea, forward it to John Kerry.....
While Teresa has the brains to comprehend that this kind of dirty trick/ballot rigging can ACTUALLY go on in our great country,John likes to bury his head in the sand and pretend it couldn't possibly take place in the US.

23. I think John may be simply more circumspect in what he says
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 10:38 AM by karynnj
In his position, he needs to have proof before saying something DID happen. So he can say there was voter suppression through long lines and messing with voter registration and he can say they need a paper trail TO ALLOW FOR AUDITS and allow the implication to be what it is. I assume Kerry knows more about the misdeeds of this group of people than anyone posting here - he investigated it - risking his career for both Contra/drugs and BCCI.

16. Almost every county in Ohio pulled the same sort of crap...
so the number of ballots potentially affected is all the ballots in Ohio. http://www.votecobb.org/recount/ohio_reports/

As far as party affiliation, you have to be careful in Ohio. There are county BOE directors who say they are Democrats but you wouldn't be able to guess it from their actions. They are either Republican plants or for some other reason (bribery, extortion, ?) look to Blackwell and the Republican party for their marching orders.

Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 06:14 AM by mikelewis
shit they pull in other agencies (i.e. intimidation, bribery, deceit) they can get at least one or two to do their dirty work. Keeping a job in Ohio isn't easy anymore and that's a hell of a lot of leverage over someone. It the same way they award crooked contracts like the Tom Noe bullshit without having people blow the whistle.

10. Rosie Grier - what a life!
The man tackled Sirhan Sirhan after he (SS, not RG) shot Bobby Kennedy, and later starred with Ray Milland in "The Thing With Two Heads." And I haven't gone into his triumphs on the gridiron. Now this?

21. Offer them a Plea Deal and Let's Get To the Top Corruptors
Does it not seem eerie that these local officials are being offered up as just "bad apples" and the top dogs are insulated from being held liable. Just like the Military's attempt to coverup the Abu Graib torture scandal -- charge a few soldiers, declare them just a few bad apples, and exonerate everyone else.

IF One of them would accept a plea offer and turn state's evidence we might get the truth out and the planners of this corruption exposed. That would be more important than making sure these two serve a couple of months in jail or maybe only fined.
