Katrina : The Discrediting of a Political Party ?
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 09:44 AM by kentuck
Is there anything that could not be fixed with another taxcut ? As people clung for life and begged for food and water, their president was seen eating cake, giving speeches, and "playing" a country guitar out in the sunshine of Arizona and California. Has there ever been a more ever-present need for "government"? But government is bad to these people. Anything the government can do, the private sector can do better, they believe.

However, as Katrina as shown, only government can handle some problems. This is why we have a government - to handle disasters and crisis that are too big for us as individuals. So we band together. It is not about liberalism or conservatism. It is about survival and watching out for our fellow man.

Even today, the Republican Party seems to believe that their idea of "compassionate conservatism" is the best way to handle problems of this magnitude? Christian charities can do as much and do it better than government, they say. Denial is the last refuge of this Party that has robbed the little guy to give everything to the wealthy. Their philosophy has been swept asunder just as much as the casinos and the cities of Gulfport and New Orleans. Republicans need to ask themselves just what they really stand for as a Party anymore.

1. try and make the tax cuts permanent now. I think the IRS should go
through the tax records and take a few mill from everyone over a certain income level.
