Haley Barbour whining on CNN
The guy is still shilling for this administration. When asked about the response time of the Feds he said, "Katrina was a category 1 storm when it hit Florida." That was what a week before? He wouldn't consider any of the criticism that BushCo was asleep at the wheel for this one.

Dude it was a category 5 storm the day before it hit MS and LA. Other than telling people to evacuate, where was the mobilization of Nat'l Guard and relief services. What part of Category 5 don't the Feds get? There really is only so much these poor states can do in the face of a catastrophe of this magnitude.

Meanwhile Bush plays his guitar and talks up his war to another hand picked ( aren't they all?) group of supporters. Leadership my ass.

1. Well, they are stuck in their own logic

According to Repubs gov't isn't supposed to offer any service or care for people, execpt the military and police. Oh and print money. Anything other than that is unnecessary.

Repubs will always be uniquely useless in times of disaster due to their own shortsightedness.

edit: So it doesn't surprise me that fatboy Haley is whining on national TV about how he can't do anything. It's revolting to be sure, but not surprising. I hope his voters flay him alive.

2. Two things might be at play here
He could be playing Good Cop, Bad Cop with Trent Lott (who was bitching up a storm the other day);

Or he could be making nice so his state does not get screwed out of federal money. Chimpy IS a vengeful fucker--we all know that.

3. Barbour is not the govenor of the state of MS.
He's the govenor of the State of Denial. That was the worst performance I've ever seen. Maybe he thought he was talking to Faux and he wouldn't be challenged on his bald-faced lies. Sickening to watch. Even Miles O'Brien (a right-wing shill) was exasperated.

4. caught the putz while getting dressed -
He looked like he was going to bust a blood vessel. The CNN guy must have asked him more than one tough question (I missed the first part) cause fatboy kept saying "I am not going to argue with you."

I was amazed that a reporter actually pressed the issue. And I got a chuckle out of watching such a walrus spin so much.

Maybe, just maybe, more Amercans will get upset at this disaster that Bushco made worse than the unpleasantness in the M.E.

5. Well, if the Bush Admin didn't refuse to acknowledge GLOBAL WARMING...
... they might have a basic understanding that warmer water temperatures lead to stronger hurricanes, and that this was not just possible but probable.

Bush is incompetent and negligent in so many ways.

Can't tell when he's happy or whining, either way.

7. it was a cat 1, but there were early forecasts of exactly what happened
Go to http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2005/refresh/KATRINA+shtml/145512.shtml

and follow the forecast history. Katrina wasn't declared a Hurricane until shortly before it made landfall on the east coast of Florida around 6:30 pm on Thursday. It was a cat one storm. BUT -- and this is CRITICAL: as early as 5 pm Thursday -- when it was still a tropical storm, NOAA was reporting that certain of its computer models forecast that the storm would strengthen into a dangerous storm and that it could make landfall between Mobile and Grand Isle ... which is exactly what happened. Unfortunately, other computer models that had the storm turning more northeasterly towards the FL panhandle were viewed as more credible at that point. But it was well understood that this was going to be a very dangerous hurricane and with even a possibility that it could hit the Louisiana coast, much more extensive efforts should have gotten underway as early as Friday. Indeed by 5 pm the forecast was shifting towards a more westerly landfall and by 11 pm Friday the forecast was as follows:
MOST OF THE RELIABLE NUMERICAL MODEL TRACKS ARE NOW CLUSTERED BETWEEN
THE EASTERN COAST OF LOUISIANA AND THE COAST OF MISSISSIPPI.

Yet the mandatory evacuation order didn't come until Sunday as I understand it.

This was a major fuck up. And Haley can't cover it up.

8. Barbour performed as expected. O'Brien was the surprise.
Haley Barbour is one of the RW architects of the starve the government philosophy so he had to deny the obvious failure of Washington to fulfill its responsibilities in this disaster. What is unexpected is the vehemence and persistence of a Stepford pundit like O'Brien in repeatedly making the point that the federal government has dropped the ball big time, to borrow a phrase.
It seems that the reporters on the ground are being confronted with W's abject failure to help Americans when they need it the most and their eyes are being opened to the incompetency that is the hallmark of this gang of crooks and thugs.

9. He's the top gasbag among a legion of great gasbags
He is unable to get off the RW talking points.

He's also a consummate liar.

And speaking of liars ... did anyone catch Rick Perry speaking about the Astrodome? He was talking about helping his neighbor states (remember, he's accepting refugees from New Orleans, specifically) and mentioned Alabama and Mississippi ... and even Florida .... many times. He almost choked every time he had to utter the word 'Louisiana'.

This fucking p[artisaism is beyond the pale ... paticularly now.
