Select comments heard in my office this morning re the New Orleans disaster (verbatim or damn close):

Had some of the same stuff going on in my mostly Republican office, too.

One woman (who goes on religious retreats several times a year) said "well we could be opening our homes, but you know that most of those refugees are the real low life".

I reminded her that one of the biggest evangelical machines in the nation is located in our city and I was wondering why IT had not offered to open its doors to the refugees.

Easier to hate and find blame and oversimplfy than to really look for solutions to problems. NOLA is the perfect example of narrow minded thinking. Do they think it would be any better if we had an attack on the US in their home city? This is proof that this administration believes this country is here to serve their purpose only. We are serfs and disposable. Easily replaced. They don't want to spend the time or money to save anyone. Cuts into their profits.

I just heard that Condi was spotted in my town earlier today (NYC) shopping for outrageously expensive shoes at Salvatore Ferragamo. Apparently a woman in the store approached her and said something to the effect of, "How dare you shop for shoes when so many thousands of people are dying!" Condi, that pillar of integrity that she is, had the woman physically removed from the store so she could continue her self-indulgent shopping spree undisturbed.

This is a story that needs to be told far and wide -- and then, the entire United States of America is due Condi's humble apology and resignation on live television. (She might not really FEEL humbled, but she can fake it -- we know she's capable of that much.)

I actually listen to Limbaugh and Hannity two or three times a week just to hear what the prevaling view on the "Right" is. Sure, it's tough to hear, but it's even tougher to shut off. I freely admit I'm not a major political junkie, so it's nice to know what the other side's arguments are before I have to respond to them. I hear some of this bullshit and can't turn away no matter how hard I try, because it's fascinating to listen to people justify things such as price gouging. Simply amazing.

The sad thing is that they believe what they're saying with every fiber of their beings and their votes count just as much as ours do. :(

Sure, there are always going to be hardcore bigots who don't give a damn about anyone but themselves, but if even a major media whore like Wolf Blitzer is starting to get pissed off, there's still hope for this country. The three Gulf states hit hardest probably won't vote Republican for at least another century (if ever).

I've started hitting freepers when they talk to me, and believe me, I haven't felt this good in a long time.
