I went to donate online to Red Cross and got a pop up saying
there was a "mismatch" between the domain name and something else, (cant' remember and I'm really upset right now - bear with me)

I'm afraid of someone putting up a fake red cross site to fraud you out of money.

Maybe I'm just crazy with anger right now but can someone check this out and find if it is valid?

2. The same thing just happened when I went through DU's link to the Red
Cross. Click on "Donate" and it will pop up.

3. It's fine, I think
They're redirecting via akamai to handle the very high traffic peak. The link you posted is no longer valid, though, so go through the main page at www.redcross.org and click the donate button. You'll get a certificate warning, but that's because of the aforementioned redirect.

The certificate is valid but the name does not match the name on the site.

6. Donations...
My husband's company is matching donations. Check to see if there
is someone in your area doing the same.

I had thought about asking if people would be interested in my
donating for them, since the amount would be doubled. What are your
thoughts on that?

14. I just checked...
it is for employees only. They did the same thing when the tsunami hit. I wish it was open to everyone.

7. I just tried to donate by credit card and ...
when I got to the final submit and clicked on it nothing happened. I was afraid to try it again so I waited and finally clicked on it again then a "page cannot be displayed" warning popped up. I don't know if it went once or twice or not at all.

10. Too much traffic at their site
It took me about 24 hours to actually be able to make a donation.

As long as you have the domain www.redcross.org you should be okay. And the actual donation page should have little lock icon at the bottom too.

15. that is one of the problems... people are told to make sure
you have the right domain name in the address bar when you donate so when people see
https://secure2.convio.net/arc/site/ they might get scared away, the folder "arc" means nothign since anyone can make a folder named anything. I am not afraid of anything wrong so much as I am afraid of the "perception" that something is wrong and discouraging people from giving.

13. Couldn't get through any other way so I called the donation number
and asked for their superviser and told them the problem - or at least that there was a perception of a problem that was definitely a problem since it is discouraging people from donating and she seemed very concerned to and said that she would talk to the general manager immediately and they'd make sure things were done asap.

The superviser had a southern accent and sounded very passionate about it, so things will move I think.
