Hugo Chavez offered to send food and fuel
CARACAS (AFP) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez offered to send food and fuel to the United States after the powerful Hurricane Katrina pummeled the US south, ravaging US crude production.

Is Bush big enough to accept? Or will he make poor people die and suffer to protect his arrogant pride?

5. Often, foreign countries are leary of US assistance because it comes with
a US military presence they'd prefer not to have.

If the US refuses to let other countries help, it'll kind make it kind of funky for the US to criticize other countries who try to limit the sort of assistance the US offers when disasters occur elsewhere.

6. Any other offers of aid from foreign countries?
Bush better accept Chavez's generous offer - especially the oil. If the average American isn't hijacked at the pump they'll have money to donate to the relief effort. It's obvious that Bush expects donations to make up a large part of the relief effort. He needs to keep as much of our tax dollars for Iraq as he can.

11. There you go with the bullshit again.

Just how do you call 4 overwhelming election victories a coup?

I know the bush* tried to kill Chavez in a coup. That's a fact.

But either back up your spew with proof or apologize.

And you are a member of the "activist corps"? God help us all.

13. Ridiculous!
THAT IS JUST RIDICULOUS. In ALL my days, this is the worst I've seen!

Chavez was the one who was OUSTED by a coup. The PEOPLE of Venezuela resisted it and returned Chavez to power. Chavez was elected in an election that JIMMY CARTER (you know, the President guy?) signed off as legitimate. You need to INFORM yourself.

Also, the opposition to Chavez controls the media, so don't give me that crap about no freedom of speech.

14. The people of Venezuela adore Chavez. He won by a landslide.
Four elections. 75% Stop pushing the Bush propaganda about Chavez. When he didn't make an appearance for two days, the people were frantic and in the streets, praying that Bush hadn't harmed him.

18. Do some research.

He went to jail for a non-violent coup (that was inspired and encouraged by the fact that the government murdered its own citizens in an anti-globalization rally in Caracas). He served his time. He formed a poltical party. The party was won something like 7 consecutive elections now.

9. Aren't you proud that we have President Chavez working so hard
for the poor and needy in America?

So if President Chavez is being such a good President, why is some nutcase living in the White House.

17. "The king of vacations" in case you missed this thread today.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=1742483&mesg_id=1742483
"For four days there were warnings that (Katrina) was going to make a direct hit, and the king of vacations at his ranch only said 'you must flee.' He did not say how," Chavez said, charging that the United States had no evacuation plans. "It's the rancher mentality."
(snip/...)
