When the Going Gets Tough: "These People Need an Enemy!"
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 06:08 PM by Sparkly
Chimpy's problem is you can't shoot at Mother Nature.

When Chimp first made a faint noise about Iraq, Helen Thomas was there battling Ari Fleischer (who kept insisting he really hadn't said anything about Iraq). I wrote to her to thank her, saying I was afraid Iraq was on their radar.

She wrote back that she'd keep trying to find out what they were up to, and added this: "These people need an enemy!"

That is their MO. Apologies to those who hate Nazi comparisons, but it's the same thing: villifying SOMEbody to cast themselves as warriors. It's the Russians. It's Saddam. (It's bin Laden -- scratch that, it's Saddam.) It's Liberals. It's anti-Christians. It's feminists, it's gays, it's Michael Moore, it's always SOMEbody or they have nothing to stand on. Their whole political platform is about a crusade AGAINST something.

So here they are fighting who -- Nature. Poverty. Thirst. Hunger. Death. Desperation. Anger. Fear. They don't like THESE enemies. They can't appear tough, they can't pound the podium with red faces, they can't use guns, they can't "fire up their base." Without an enemy to villify, they are lost -- humanitarian effort is just NOT part of the "tough-guy" costuming and posturing that's become their political stance on EVERY issue.

Political gain is everything to them, and they're clueless now, looking for a way to make this work for them. They're on their own -- there's nobody else to blame. The accountability is all theirs, their greed and incompetence is showing, and they don't have ANYbody to rail against.

It's time to call for repealing tax cuts, for conservation, and for real compassion and sacrifice -- they won't do it, and they have nowhere to look for blame. So if there comes a time when we stop yelling and crying at what we're seeing on TV right now, watch them. Imo,they are OUR enemy -- and it will be interesting.

4. Fixed
I meant "repealing" tax cuts -- thank you!! They use financial prudence as an excuse for failing to meet basic needs, yet we're supposed to believe oil tycoons and corporate fatcats NEED their extra billions.

3. This is why they want you to focus on the looters and lawlessness.
They're to blame.

Them and the terrorists. Can't forget the terrorists.

6. That is why the army was not sent in like GANGBUSTERS. Bush
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 06:39 PM by applegrove
needs an enemy - innocent, misunderstood, hard to relate to, who he can dump all of the hatred he stirs onto. The scapegoats. Innocents in New Orleans. Always the way with sociopaths. The bigger they get the more they require a scapegoat to take possession of the things about themselves they will not take responsibility for.

And many of these innocents are children. Many probably didn't even vote in the election. They have done absolutely nothing to the Bush Cabal. Absolutely nothing to deserves to be sitting in a polluted and lawless basin of water... and stirred, and stirred, and stirred and stirred with the criminals.

Why? So Bush can reconnect to his base in his adolescent way: common enemy. So he can make himself out to be "all white light and perfect" by not owning up to the responsibility he has for the actions he repeatedly, in a clearly demonstrable pattern, continues to take. The innocent minding their own business and trying to survive and make lives for themselves or to keep those meager possession they do have..and are not insured for.

Bush is well aware of the power of "Myth" associated with the might of the American Federal Army. He willfully chooses not to use that myth & power to stop lawlessness cold. This is a wedge that pays off to him. He should be impeached for this alone.

8. Don't be so sure they won't declare War on Nature next...
... after all, there's ample precededent for just such lunacy among their antecedents, as well.

I realize this sounds like "Lefty Lunacy", but hold on. Those who believe that the uber-right manifesto is purely about greed miss one rather key point: the jihadista-level fanaticism of the Armageddonite fundies who comprise the Imperial Guard of the present Holy Amerikkan Emperor, Chimpy the First. (BTW: I herein apologize to all members of the species Pan troglodytes for the implicit insult to them and their kind.) Nature has always been equated, in their twisted, shriveled souls, with Capital-E Evil. They take their cue in this from the narrow reading of the Book of Genesis wherein (so they believe) they are commanded to subdue the earth in the name of holiness.

No less an "authority" on the "True Word of God" than Paul the Apostate (oops, that should have read "Apostle") wrote frequently and passionately on the "Sacred Obligation" to dominate, subdue and repress evil Nature which, in his sick opinion, was the very essence and source of Satanic Evil. Not just sex, but all "natural" things were the embodiment of that Principle which operated in the world to deny men union with God.

This is the same Paul who believed (and wrote) that Woman exists only to seduce Man away from Godliness. His followers, who approve of such things as foot-binding, cliterectomies and the burning of Witches (most of whom, remember, were women who knew, and were comfortable with, Nature) as proper treatment of the Daughters of the Demon-Whore, Lilith (by which they mean all of you, my precious, beloved sisters!), would consider such things as stripmining, clearcutting and "flood control" to be equally Holy Works, inasmuch as such works bring "anti-God Nature" under the dominion of God's avatars on Earth: "Man, the highest form of life".

If the Army Corps of Engineers gets a big boost in funding in the next F.Y., I won't be surprised.

15. Maybe we should send him a case of extra-strength Viagra!
Maybe if he could actually get his freak on, he might stop beating up on children and the helpless.

Hey, it's a thought, okay?

14. They're turning the victims into enemies
After all, the New Orleans victims look like those in Darfur ... or Rwanda.
