Oklahoma poll favors Clark 2004-01-27 By Will Lester Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON -- Several leading Democratic presidential candidates are jockeying for the top spot in Arizona, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Michigan, according to polls conducted in states with contests that closely follow New Hampshire.
Wesley Clark is leading in Oklahoma and is competitive with John Kerry in Arizona, while John Edwards appears to have a slight edge in his native South Carolina, according to American Research Group polls of the three states with Feb. 3 primaries.
Kerry had a substantial lead in Michigan which holds its caucuses Feb. 7, according to an Epic-MRA poll released Monday.
Arizona: Kerry had 24 percent and Clark 21 percent with Edwards at 15 percent and Howard Dean at 10 percent.
Oklahoma: Clark has a slight lead in Oklahoma with 23 percent, Edwards was at 18 percent and Kerry at 17 percent. Joe Lieberman was at 10 percent and Dean at 8 percent.
South Carolina: Edwards, a native of South Carolina and senator in neighboring North Carolina, was at 21 percent. John Kerry was at 17 percent, Al Sharpton at 15 percent and Wesley Clark at 14 percent.
Michigan: Kerry has the backing of 37 percent, while onetime Michigan leader Dean was at 14 percent with Edwards. Clark was named a top choice by 10 percent.
