Get ready for * to nominate Janice Rogers Brown
Yet another Rovian scenario:

The black community is PISSED OFF at shrub. So, he'll nominate a black female to the SCOTUS to make it look like he is "compassionate." Meanwhile, Dems who attack her will be seen as racist. And BINGO--blacks are once again pissed off at Dems.

1. I think it's kind of naive to assume that blacks, or any minority, will...
see someone of their own race and, based on that alone, offer unthinking support. Most gays are highly critical of Log Cabin Republicans. All of the black people I know are ashamed of Condoleezza Rice. Most people aren't that simplistic. The NAACP released a huge report on what a horrible Judge JRB is.

2. I think you missed the underlying argument.
I didn't say that blacks will support her because she's black. What I said was that Dems will be labeled as "racist" in opposition to a nominee who happens to be a black female. They have to be really careful to focus on her record, if she is nominated, and not let the repugs pull the race card. Right now we have the African American community in solidarity against *'s response to Katrina... this could bring back those who have strayed from our party. But if the Dems let a "racist" label stick, then forget getting them back.

4. It not about blacks at all....
It's about suburban mom's who watch Oprah and see themselves as not racists....

It's part of the updated "southern strategy" that Kevin Phillips foisted on the country via Nixon's 1968 election campaign....

It's all about race....

But the subtle kind...

the kind to reassure Brittany McYuppie that Damn, "Bush isn't as bad as they say. why look he nominated and African American and a woman! I'm voting for him and his kind....."

Cause they are compassionate and I get my tax cut too... So Jerod McYuppie can inherit our hard earned money and not pay any "death tax."

I'm telling you, that is the strategy...
