Has anyone thought of this possibility?
They have moved everyone out of the flooded gulf. Maybe 10,000 dead. The dead will never be able to talk, and now the people who once lived there are scattered. We must be able to keep track of all these displaced Americans, and we must keep track of all of the dead! These families must be able to tell their stories! They must be reunited with their families be dead or alive! I think this is no accident! We cannot let this administration get away with this! Everyone must tell their story, and once they do, we will put the peices of this puzzle together and the evil administration will be exposed! (funny, we keep saying this, but exposing them isn't getting us anywhere)

1. I bet Studs Terkel has. He has a young heir to his oral history work
whose name escapes me at the moment, but I'm confident that every NO survivor has a story to tell and this land is full of people talented enough to record it.

3. Wow, I've been a despairing optimist all week, d o!
Many stories will be told a la' Studs. And sadly, probably many bodies will be buried without identity, unlike 9/11, as has been pointed out on another thread on DU. I don't know if it's the volume of bodies that's daunting or the complete incompetence of what's gone on thus far.

4. When the name of Terkel's heir comes to you, could
you post it or email it to me. I have loved all of his work, especially Hard Times, the book on the Depression. You are right, this event is ready made for a first rate oral historian. Thanks .

and that he didn't know where his family had been taken, it occurred to me that some of them might be heading for concentration camps. Under the Real ID Act, Chertoff is authorized to place Americans in concentration camps and execute them.

Editing to add comment that it goes into effect May 2008 and would establish "voluntary" Federally approved ID cards and would give the Homeland Security Director broad discretionary power to add on additional requirements such as fingerprints or retinal scan (Yikes!)

8. You missed it. Section 102 is the authorization for the death camps.
This is one of many good analysis of the Real ID Act

9. What the hell? You are way off course if you think
what you wrote. Chertoff is a tool and won't be there long. It won't happen, so perish the thought. Please!

11. He is authorized to waive all laws without prosecution.
Even if Bush orders to kill 200,000,000 Americans, Chertoff can simply waive the laws against kidnapping, murder, torure or whatever and kill them. Congress gave Chertoff unlimited powers. It doesn't matter whether he's following orders or initiating the plan. He is a torture advocate and he was connected to the financing of 9/11.

7. It is a lack of planning
that was the problem here. I think you give folks in the WH too much credit.

15. It's a little more than lack of planning--
it's disregard for the rights and feelings of "the little people."

13. in political terms only
this is very good. first of all the diaspora cannot be silenced. where ever the people of new orleans are there is their story. as they dispurse across the land their story dispurses across the land. a hundred here a hundred there. no one will be imune from the story.

17. It's divide and conquer
If you have many angry people in one place it's easy for the media to portray. If they are scattered all over the country their voices are less likely to be heard.
