Rep. Richard Baker (R-LA)..Quote of the Day
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 10:28 AM by cyn2
"We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did."

-- Rep. Richard Baker (R-LA), quoted by the Wall Street Journal, "overheard" in a conversation with lobbyists. "Baker explains later he didn't intend flippancy but has long wanted to improve low-income housing."

3. Not surprising
I'm sure there is a lot of barely restrained glee that the city has been cleared of low-income residents and that miles and miles of housing will have to be demolished and replaced with more upscale dwellings.

This will prove to be the biggest bonanza imaginable for well-connected companies. The dead and homeless will be just a footnote.

4. This quote belongs on the ever-growing list of shameful statments
made by 'compassionate conservative' Republicans. The hypocrisy and contempt is overwhelming. Is someone keeping a list, BTW?.. just the other day Rick Santorum said those who didn't evacuate should be penalized. What a bunch of dicks.

5. Improve, in Republicanspeak: syn. 'reform':
Def: to remove, destroy, demolish, legislate out of existance, terminate, kill.

6. I get a sneaky feeling
That, to Baker, improving low-income housing means turning it into high-income housing.

12. further reinforcing the notion that FEMA's inaction was intentional
I'm really worried about this. If I find out for sure that the gov't let this happen so they could ethnically cleanse New Orleans, I will quit my job and head over to Washington DC in an instant. My rage will be explosive, and poorly managed, so I'll want to be venting it on the bastards who so richly deserve it.

14. Republicans seem to delight in alienating low income black folks.
Why all the apparent glee? I don't get it.
