Boycott eBay
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Man_who_said_fuck_yourself_to_Cheney_selling_tape_on_e_0909.html

The emergency room physician who told Vice President Dick Cheney to "fuck yourself" was selling a video of the incident on eBay, and the price rose to nearly $700 before it was removed by administrators, RAW STORY has discovered.

5. Eh, according to opensecrets.org
they cough up money for Dems (54% vs 46% to Repubs)

This video incident alone is not enough to boycott someone. I don't even know what Ebay's malfunction was.

11. I sell stuff on eBay - he was selling stuff he didn't own copyright to.
A tape of CNN perhaps? eBay has many holes through which work around this, but I'm sure the guy was ratted on (Bob Novak?)

18. I sell on eBay also (6+ yrs) , saw the orig Auction, he had violated TOS..
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 06:27 AM by WePurrsevere
about the use of profanity... it probably had nothing to do with copyright since he legally owns what he is selling.

When I posted the link here yesterday to the auction I mentioned folks would have to act quickly. I also posted in a different thread WHY it was pulled and that he'd just have to rewrite it without the obsenities and possibly remove the url to his website (which since not selling anything is "legal" but eBay pulls auctions first and asks questions later as you probably know).

Hopefully he garners LOTS of legitimate bids. Over the years I've seen stuff incredibly silly and worth a LOT less go for mega bucks so I hope he scores big enough to repair his home, pay off med school debts or whatever... he certainly deserves IMO.

26. gee, sorry to hear that.
of course, I respect your opinion. I have bought everything from vintage watches, vintage charms, grape plants, movie passes (i gave as party favors), lovely doll clothes for my 3 year-old, anti-Bush paraphanalia, and a funky, hairy flokati rug for my office/den. These purchases were made (largely) from Sellers who were "small guys", trading stuff they owned for needed cash, or small retail businesses. I think eBay is a GREAT, GREAT concept that has allowed anyone from anywhere with access to a computer and a post office, a potential livelihood. I saw on a documentary, a story abut a family from BumFuck, Nowhere, USA that started a thriving business after the primary wage-earner had lost his job in an area with little or no opportunity.

Also, eBay has allowed collectors from around the world access to rare and obscure treasures. As I said, i bought (used) doll clothes for my child that would have been very expensive had I purchased them new.

Yes, eBay has taken a larger and larger commission from Sellers and gotten greedy. Yes, there is rampant fraud, so you have to be careful. But it still remains a great place for Buyers and Sellers to find each other.

Curious about your militant aversion to eBay. Again, I respect your opinion. I'm curious why you you feel proud not to have bought there?

27. I've bought things from widgets to a car...Ebay rocks....
You have to go in with knowledge about what you want and what its REALLY worth. There are great deals and laughable deals when you add in the shipping.

I've bought motherboards,CPU's,vintage aviation ads,a 2000 Grand Am in WPB Florida.

21. I wish it were easier to boycott it
but no decent alternatives exist. Sure there are various other auction sites but they don't have nearly the same reach and amount of activity as eBay.
