and rightly so. Whoever perpetrates a screw up of this magnitude must needs be ridden out of town on a rail, but only after suitable tarring and feathering.

and if there isn't one available, they make one, manufacturing an artificial scandal out of anything they can cobble together, or blowing a minor indiscretion into a major national crisis.

When anything bad happens under a Democratic administration, no matter how unpreventable and no matter how well handled, it will be used a the focal point for attacks on that administration. I can no longer even count the things that have happened under this regime that would have gotten a Democrat impeached, tried, convicted, arrested, and imprisoned. If 9/11 had happened on Gore's watch, he would have been run out of town for incompetence and for failing to prevent the attacks, and you'd better believe that all the memos, and all the pre-attack intelligence floating around would have been plastered all over the newspapers.

No 90% approval ratings for Gore, just for showing up and making a speech. Nobody would have called it partisan either, the way that even the most mild of criticisms of the Katrina response is being dismissed by * supporters.

It's way, way past time that we learn to play hard ball with these bastards, and for our leaders to get it through their fucking heads what their modus operandi are.
