Justice Stevens threw out the first pitch at the Cubs game tonight
He looked and sounded amazingly sharp and healthy!

1. That's good to know. I've been worried about him.
I mean, the man is 84. Frightening to imagine Bush getting to replace him. :(

2. He's healthy...
...He can't hit the strike zone, but as you said, he is 84.

3. At the end of the last term (earlier this year)
I remember reading a report saying that he's in quite good shape, both mentally and physically.

If he can make it to the 2009 Democratic inauguration (or a 2007 Democratic senate in a pinch), so can I.

4. His dissent in Bush v. Gore
was a smoldering five-way bitch slap that was the only good thing to come from that affront to the nation. Scalia doesn't like to be scolded, he likes to do the upbraiding - but imaging his reaction to Stevens' dissent gave me a few moments of pleasure amid the despair.
I've loved him more since then and hope he stays until he's over 100 - like the Strom Thurmond of the Supreme Court.

:spank:
