Tonight is all about "restoring the public's faith in Bush's leadership"
ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox shuffled their Thursday schedules to air his remarks live. Bush planned to speak for a little over 20 minutes, beginning at precisely two minutes after 9 p.m. EDT to accommodate the broadcasters. McClellan said Bush would describe new initiatives but would not announce the appointment of an official to oversee the recovery effort, as some GOP allies in Congress have urged. The president also was not attaching any specific dollar figure to the new programs, McClellan said. Bush was to commit to meeting people's immediate needs and to supporting local ideas about how the new communities should look, McClellan said.

Bush also planned to acknowledge the role of poverty and "a long history of injustice" in the fact that the disaster affected many who could least afford it. The president was to urge that overcoming that history is key, and one way to ensure that the rebuilt communities that emerge are "stronger and better" than they ones they replace, McClellan said. Black Americans have been particularly angered by the government response to the disaster, with an overwhelming majority telling pollsters they believe help would have come quicker if so many of the people stranded were not poor and black.

The perception of a sluggish response to the storm has led to the lowest approval ratings of Bush's presidency. Bush, who prides himself on being a direct communicator, has struggled to convey a clear message since the storm hit. He began this week by dismissing questions about what went wrong as a "blame game." But on Tuesday, he said he took responsibility for any failures on the federal end.

The White House hoped that Bush's acceptance of responsibility and the commitment to rebuilding would help restore the public's faith in his leadership.

1. "Bush, who prides himself on being a direct communicator"
That is the funniest thing I have read in a long time. He prides himself on being a communicator? This man can't put a sentence together and stumbles when he is speaking others' words but he prides himself on his communicating ability? What's next pride in decisive leadership during a crisis? :eyes:

any way on his communication abilities? The man cannot string two coherent sentences together that are not scripted for him!!

2. Which begs the question of background staging...
Will he be backdropped by destroyed and run down government housing or the French Quarter?

We should start a pool on the hand-picked diversity of people sitting him on bleachers behind him...or will they all be wearing camos? LOL!

6. And what will be the sterile message that will be draped
up in the background? There's always a two or three-word phrase behind all his speeches - to clue in the sheeple about the subject on which he's speaking (since he can't speak worth a damn).

Repairing Dreams?
Rebuilding Lives?
The Poor Matter?

10. How bout "working out well for them" ?
Apparently that's what the "Silver Douchebag" Babs Bush thinks of all of the evacuees in the AstroDome.

Or "Washing away poverty."

3. .....And Millions of viewers will be changing their channels...You Know...
...it's getting pretty bad when the majority of Americans would rather watch
old reruns of "Three's Company" than listen to a President.

8. Hey!!! I've been waiting for the new season for months!!!
And honestly, I'd bet $1,000,000 that Karl Rove can rattle off the viewership statistics of Survivor! They're using it as the 'lead in' for Bush; you can take that one to the bank.

One more thing...I have Comcast and the guide description reads:
"In Louisiana, President Bush reports on Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts. (2005) (Politics)" I just find this terribly amusing that it doesn't read "President Bush addresses the nation" or even "President's Address".

11. Wanda Sykes on Leno last night said she didn't blame Bush for NO...
...she blamed all the dumb folks that voted him in! (paraphrasing)

Let's hope all those voters aren't fooled this time by whatever spin he puts on things!

And as far as the direct communicator thing...I thought he prided himself on pulling the wool over peoples eyes regarding his patrician background by deliberately making "mistakes" so people would "misunderestimate" him and see him as just folks. Some direct communcation!

12. I mean really; isn't this boob
out in 3 years if not sooner in your country? It's obvious he doesn't give a crap so why does he even bother? I guess you folks are glad there are term limits down there, although so much damage has been done.
