"Category 4 and 5 storms have doubled since the 1970's"

Some science guy from the Georgia Institute of Techonology is explaining global warming on CNN. He has just explained that this is due to a basically one degree average temperature change in the surface water. The newscaster just asked, "This really scares me. If one degree does that, aren't there projections for surface water temperature to raise as much as five degrees during my children's lifetimes? What does that mean?" The guy pretty much said, "Well, I guess we need to stop pretending that global warming doesn't exist and do something about it."

4. We will not change until the pain has been inflicted

The authorities knew about the situation with New Orleans for decades, yet they failed to spend the money necessary to address the problem for some reason or another.

I'm afraid the only way the US will voluntarily change its ways is if more people end up dying.
