So, someone called me an idealist today

I think at that point I started yelling out of sheer frustration, because you know what? I am an idealist, why?

Because we're better than this. As a party, as a people, as a country, we're better than this. Better than this political warfare; this idea of nationalism and ethnocentrism. We're better than this blind labeling of people and automatic dismissal, "oh, you're a Muslim" and "oh, you're a Christian" as an automatic reason to not trust or consider anything they say. I'm a democrat because I believe in the democratic ideals - economy, education, choice - but I'm tired of having my whole personality judged on that political alignment. I'm tired of others being judged on the same basis.

Where did the idea of liberty go? Where did those inalienable rights go?

I know the most common response to this post is going to be that the Republicans took them away - that the country is how it is today because of the President. And I won't disagree, he certainly isn't what I'd consider a leader. But there has to be more than that. It isn't just the conservatives, it isn't just those foreign terrorists - it has to be internal.

Right now, this country needs a leader. In the coming years, we'll need a leader. The Republicans don't have one, Democrats are fighting over which one it will be - and where does that leave us?

What ever happened to the idea of compromise?

Okay, I guess I'm just frustrated with the way everything is going - in this country, in the world. I think the dems have the best plan for the country - but I can't discount the opinions of the other half of the country, because they mean something too. I'm tired of being so divided and feeling as if it's one side or the other and if you aren't with us you're against us. I'm not saying I want a country where everyone shares the same views and opinions but just that people are more respectful of those views, on both sides.

Sigh. Wouldn't it be loverly? The thing is, I'm just too angry right now. And as long as the reichwing of the republican party holds most of the cards I don't feel much like playing nice.
