25. "Serving your community part-time?"
Yeah, there's an awful lot of PT work in Iraq, I hear...

PART TIME? Who the hell are they kidding?

I know the Guard is supposed to be PT, but this isn't America, it's the United Servants of PNAC.

12. I just emailed Apple
Here's what I wrote:

"I was very disturbed to see iTunes downloads being used as an enticement to encourage people to allow themselves to be contacted by the National Guard. This goes against everything I would think that Apple stands for. This is being discussed a lot in the news blogs like Raw Story, Democratic Underground, and several other blogs. Some people are even talking about boycotting iTunes because of this.

Please consider not allowing this type of use for your products. It's really bad for Apple's image (and extremely bad for the kids who end up signing up)."

-------------------------------

I don't know if it will do any good, but it's worth a try (and it made me feel better to do something about it since I'm an Apple fan).

29. I think it's still worth a try to email Apple about this
OK, I saw a mention of boycotting in the comments on Crooks and Liars, and overreacted. And you're absolutely right, the disclaimer is shown in the small print of the site, but it's still the lead story in several blogs and it certainly puts Apple in a bad light. In fact, the headline for the story at Raw Story "itunes Becomes Recruiting Tool."

That's why I wanted to email Apple about it. I remember a while back that Apple had a widget on their web site that was affiliated with the disgusting "Club Gitmo" merchandise site (through no fault of their own--the widget was created by a third-party). After it was brought to the attention of DU readers, people started emailing Apple about it and they promptly removed it from their web site.

Apple is a progressive and liberal-minded company. In fact, they donated around $78,000 to the Democratic party and 0 to the Republican party last year (see buyblue.org), so I think they might be open to this.

I don't know if they can stop certain unsavory uses of their products and services, but it's worth a try in my opinion.

Here's their web site's contact page:

http://www.apple.com/contact/

They don't have a general comments email address, but I sent my message to Apple.com feedback and product feedback (iTunes)

19. I was in the U.S. Army for nine years...
...and served in Operation Just Cause in Panama. Just think how freaked out I feel at seeing yet another Bush war underway after seeing first hand how the U.S. military is treated like a tool to do the dirty contract work of an evil family like the Bushes.

I know how you feel better then you know.

30. Anyone noticed two major upcoming movie releases are actually recruiting
films? A step up, I guess, from pro-war documentaries in prior war-time.

Two films I've recently seen trailers of are: "Jarhead"; and "Anapolis." The trailers of both are so over-the-top gung-ho sign-'em-up, 'isn't glorious being a soldier in current-day war?'

Recruitments must really be down when major movie studios do star-studded major films misleading and glorifying becoming a soldier in current-day unjustified war/conflicts.
