Take back your GOP! (my e-mail to close family Repugs, post Delay)
"Time for you to wrest back your once-great party from the thugs, robber barons and profiteering warmongers who have hijacked it. If you fail to do so, any attempt at restoring robust, healthy opposition and genuine bipartisan democracy is doomed. Such a failure will hasten the demise of the US as it was conceived by the Founding Fathers.
The nation will descend into a permanent state of semi-armed unrest and smoldering revolution, where the body politic and social fabric will unravel, either through gradual deterioration or sudden and violent conflict.
We Democrats can't do it for you. Only you Republicans can make the required changes and do the necessary housecleaning from the inside of your own party. For the sake of the sustainability of the nation, your time has come to act.
Please forward this to every decent, moderate Republican you know."

1. Probably won't win you too many Christmas cards, but if they won't convert
then I guess it will have to do.

3. I'm fed up with
pussy footing around and pretending there isn't this humongous, deformed elephant sitting in our family "parlor". And screw the X-mas cards--couldn't care less. :argh:

These are educated, intelligent people supposedly. How can they be so freaking blind, deaf and dumb?

6. Goddamn it, I sometimes can't believe that
my own flesh and blood can be so blinkered, narrow, and self-interested. For my brother, it's pure financial expediency--he loves those tax cuts in his bracket. SG

2. welcome to DU but once agin
people need to learn some history... the sunny scenario is that GOP is so corrupted it cannot be saved... and they will go the way of the Whigs... that said the foundng fathers did not conceive a country with factions, what they called parties. They concieved a country of individuals, who at times did the public service, for pennies of what they could make in the private sector. Career politicos was not something they envisioned either.

5. Thanks for the welcome, Nadin. And thank Brahman
for DU, the only place where I can read and respond to reasonable discourse. Trying to talk to such a politically stunted family is akin to Anne Sullivan working with Helen Keller. SG

7. Parts of my family are the same way.
I have to disagree with the Anne Sullivan comparison though. Helen Keller "wanted" to learn. She wasn't happy with or proud of her ignorance.
