5. So how the hell did Cheney the Dick ever qualify to be Sec'y of Defense?
And to attempt to be fair to Tweety, he did join the Peace Corps...
not military service, but service of a kind.
Don't know why I am trying to be fair to him; he's become a pretty big whore for the Reich Wing. Must have been too long since he worked for Carter...the integrity has worn off, it seems.

7. The Republican side of that list, the group too patriotic to serve...
is known as THE CHICKENHAWKS.

They wave the flag, call for war but never serve. They let folks like you and me put on the unif0orms and go in harms way.

9. That is awsome. Says so much.
I am copying that to word.
Consider: This (serving in the military) is not a measure of the person all by itself mind you. If these were true
pacifists they would have my attention. These, for the most part, are people who
use war hysteria to send our young men and women off into harms way.
Most recently they did it for no reason at all! They all lied.
I really need a good PC word for "Pukes" because I am too polite to
call them pukes even though 'pukes' is what they are.
Oh wait a minute. I just remembered.
We can call them REPUBLICANS
...and yeah yeah I understand there are decent honest
Republicans out there but all I can say is look at the company
you keep.

20. Good list,
But what exactly did Newt Gingrich, Phil Gramm, JC Watts, Jack Kemp, Dan Quayle, Rudy Giuliani, George Pataki, John Engler, Lindsey Graham, or Arnold Schwarzenegger have to do with sending anyone to war (or for that matter, many of the democrats listed either)? I'd like to see a list of the people in congress who actually voted for and against the IWR and their military history. Maybe I'll start working on one.

24. My point was that it is one thing to advocate something
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 11:16 AM by hughee99
It is another to actually be in a position to do something about it. IMHO, it makes a better case to show the people who actually voted for the IWR and the funding that have no military service as opposed to just naming conservatives. In someone's post, Ronald Reagan was mentioned as making movies during WWII. What does that have to do with this at all? I don't recall any major wars during Reagan's administration, nor was he in any position to advocate for the current fiasco. The Administration members records is a great example of the point to be made here, mentioning an out-of-work politician or someone who really has no (or very little) say in the war like a governor obscures the issue, which is that the same people driving the war have never spent time in the military. To this end, the people in congress should also be held accountable for the votes they've made.

If the point of this list is just to say that liberals join the military and conservatives do not, then I don't think this list is going to carry any weight with anyone who is not already of that thinking, since I'm sure conservatives would be able to add lots of repukes that spent time in the military and democrats who did not.

My point is, we can try to feel good all we want about Democrats. But until they start to show a backbone as a party all this feel good stuff is bullshit.

(sorry i'm not feeling very cheered today.)
