Poll question: Is Bill Bennett an abortion-advocate?
If so, perhaps in our discussions (particularly with Republicans), we should refer to him as abortion-advocate Bill Bennett...

The question: Is Bill Bennett an abortion-advocate?

1. No, he made it clear that the act of ABORTION was wrong.
He just doesn't think the whole extremely racist/borderline Nazist (and this is a case where using the term actually ISN'T outrageous) was wrong.

2. I have no trouble believing
he'd be an advocate of it for the "little people" and "those people", in other words, all those who aren't white, rich, and privileged.

10. Then you obviously have no understanding
of conservative views of abortion. I might even be able to grant you that perhaps he'd be in favor of sterilization for those folks, but, abortion, no.

5. Yes, but only for Blacks--Or Maybe Even Latinos...
...but never any rich rightwing white ideologues, since, well, they are usually Republicans, and it's a public secret that Republicans quietly dislike the Latinos, made clear by Rep. Cornyn of Texas when he rushed into a Republican meeting in the House (I think it was) and proclaimed that they needed to do something about illegal immigration because, and I paraphrase him: "...because we all know what'll happen if we don't. We'll be getting more democrats!"

7. No, he stated that he is against abortion. the racism in his
statement (as Conyers points out in his blog) is in his equating being black with being a criminal, as if blacks had a criminal gene.

Most RW's don't get this, because their own racist views make them think the same way.

9. You're exactly right.
I don't understand why people focus on abortion/genocide, etc...It's racist because he said black babies rather than just babies. All the rest doesn't mean a thing. Comments like the original one here are why Bennett et. al. are able to muddy the waters. When our side doesn't know what the hell they're talking about, it just gives the other side room to attack on things that don't have anything to do with the subject at hand.

8. He's a Christo-Facist Racist.
He would be for aborting Black and Latino babies, but who would fund it? Most of the women he's interested in having abort are women from low-income situations. Since the government has consistently removed the public funding for abortions, who would pay for them? That is probably the only thing that has kept him from just keepinghis racist thoughts as a theory, and not as a major policy of his Party.

Can you believe this man had the audacity and the hypocrisy to write a book called "The Book of Virtues"??? Ugh.

12. I have misgivings about this whole controversy
because abortion does lower the crime rate... And that does help make the case about why abortion should remain legal, Its better for the young woman to be able to choose and its better for the country as a whole.

I just hope this racist statement by Bennett doesn't make this argument out-of-bounds because I think it is a good argument for people that are pro-choice to use, along with the typical stuff about women controlling their own bodies etc...
