Ike Was Right About War Machine

Oct. 2, 2005(CBS) The following is a weekly 60 Minutes commentary by CBS News correspondent Andy Rooney. It was first broadcast Oct. 2, 2005.

I'm not really clear how much a billion dollars is but the United States — our United States — is spending $5.6 billion a month fighting this war in Iraq that we never should have gotten into.

We still have 139,000 soldiers in Iraq today.

Almost 2,000 Americans have died there. For what?

but he was pitch-perfect tonight. Reasonable people, regardless of where their politics are, realized what an absolute mess this is.

5. Yep! I watched that! Aandy is an old curmudgeon, but he hit the
truth dead on tonight.

I don't always agree with him, but I try to watch him every Sun night! Most of the time, he says just what I'm thinking.

7. Go Andy Go! He's right behind Dan Rather in the balls division at CBS.
Speaking of CBS and Dan Rather, it's time to revisit the memo about bush* and his National Guard career and AWOL. It's also wells past time for CBS to broadcast their original Niger/Yellowcake/Forgery story.

9. I sent an e-mail in support of Andy (text below)
I applaud Andy's comments on Sunday's 60 Minutes. It is so refreshing for someone to actually tell the truth on this issue. Our invasion of Iraq was wrong & I believe many are coming to the realization that it was the result of an intentional and deliberate deception of the American people. This administration should be held accountable.

13. the only Andy Rooney piece I really disliked was the Kurt Cobain
suicide one.

He said something along the lines of:

"I don't understand why kids are so depressed today. My generation lived through the Great Depression and World War II. Those were hard times but we never put a gun in our mouths and pulled the trigger..."

It was just shy of 2,000 most of the summer. Thirty names were released last week alone.

18. Please Keep Pressure on Congress and the Media
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 06:47 AM by jarnocan
"We need to build on the momentum of the the recent demonstrations by having each member of Congress hear personally from you, their direct constituents, to demand that Congress pass legislation to end the war now, refuse any additional funding for the war, prohibit the establishment of permanent military bases in Iraq, and investigate the claims of the Bush administration that were used to justify the war. Go to: http://www.millionphonemarch.com "
You can use this resource to take action, tell them how you feel about this war that is promoting hate and terror, and the lies that led US into it, also sends a copy of a note to the media- you can selct the paper. Please do something, before they decide they can begin bombing I ran as well. That was -likely is the plan, but so much has happend; with the bit of enlightment via the hurricanes, the events last weekend in WDC and around the country, investigations of the Rovinesque acts of treason, and the Downing St. Memo related inquiries. I think they may have backed off a bit. Well keep beating the beast back, it is an evil one. :toot:
I do think the Bush regime may be desperate- so perhaps they nominate a decent judge (I don't know yet) to win back a speck of credability, and see if we can all just get along. grrrr. Let's not.
You can call your members of Congress toll-free, 888-818-6641 or 888-355-3588. Operators on duty 24 hours a day. Just ask to be connected to your one of your senators or your house representative and they'll put you through. The numbers still work fine! Please get as many folks to call as you can.

19. Please note: A billion is about four dollars ($4.00) per American.
There are 293 million Americans per my last check of the CIA website.
Near enough to 250 million, or quarter billion Americans. (Some don't work yet or anymore so 250 is a good figure.)

5.6 B$ is about twenty plus dollars per person per month. Say two movies and a popcorn a month YOU are giving to Iraq. How nice of YOU. Hope you feel the nightly newscasts you hear for a month add up to two good movies.
