Bush: "I consulted with eighty senators."
Wow, Bush consults with senators in the same way he consults with the UN. I wonder how many senators came to the WH with what-her-name on their list? I wonder how many got told in the consultation that what's her name was on Bush's list?

I suggest it went like this?

"I want a justice who respects the law"

"We do too, Mr. President"

"Then we'll agree on my choice, I'm sure"

If Rep: "Yes, sir."

If Dem: "Err...I hope so."

The End.

1. The only reason the # '80' popped up was because someone
asked for his IQ...

No way he asked for input from anyone, he talked to some of his GOP cronies, that's it.

2. He might have asked, pretending to care.

7. Here you go
Democratic and Republican special interests groups had been braced for a political brawl over the pick, but they may not get it. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, had urged the president to consider Miers, according to several officials familiar with Bush's consultations with Congress.

9. The implication of your post is we should be for her now
Not surprising. Are you sure you are in the right place? I thought DU was for Dem supporters only.

12. I have no idea where you got such an idea

The original poster speculated as to whether or not any of the Democratic Senators had recommended this woman to Bush. I simply supplied some information regarding that premise. How is answering a question with facts readily available in the news media not consistent with supporting Democrats?

10. And just like the UN, he's treating the SC as a payback appointment
for loyalty, regardless of the appropriateness of the appointment.

13. Don't think he would have time for all this consulting
with all this Katrina/Rita work he's been doing. :sarcasm:

14. Oh, he sees them in groups of twenty
or makes a conference call.

How long do you think he spends "consultin'"? Long enough so he can use the word, that's all.
