I DON'T GIVE A CRAP that she is a woman!! *rant*
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 07:28 PM by geekgrrl
I am watching news tonight- trying to catch up on what the talking heads are saying about Miers.

They are pointing out all the "firsts" she had as a woman. Who the hell cares?

AND there are democratic senators saying (Ried for one) stuff like "I'm glad he picked a woman to replace O'Connor."

Huh?

You know what? This feminist couldn't give a crap that Harriet is a woman. I really don't care. What kind of argument is that? Are women inherently for a woman's right to choose? Is she really going to advance opportunities for women in this country by being on the Court? If she is conservative as she seems, she could move women's rights backwards not forwards. Just because she is a woman doesn't mean she will fill O'Connor's shoes as the swing-vote who stuck up for women's rights. On the contrary, I think.

What do we know about her? We know she loves Bushy-boy. She thinks he is brilliant, for crying out loud. And she is VERY conservative.

This "she is a woman" crap is just about cloaking this nomination in what they think is "liberalism." Do they think we'll fall for that? That we are that stupid?

1. Right now I'd settle for a WASP liberal male.
If he was a liberal WASP, from a wealthy old money family, heterosexual and male that would be just fine with me.

3. She is not a woman, she appears to be an asexual Bush-bot
career freak like Condi. I may sound like an asshole and get flamed for this, but I prefer people making decisions that will outlive them to have families that will outlive them too, by birth or adoption.

4. I would rather have a female Bushbot than a male Bushbot.
Although it is pretty creepy - how much she likes Bush*. But then so does Rove - and probably anyone Bush* surrounds himself with.

There ought to be law against presidents appointing their personal lawyer.

5. really? I can't imagine much difference btwn male and female bushbots.
They are all anti-life (pro-war). They are all anti-equality. Male or female, I can't imagine any worthwhile difference.

Well, if anything maybe the female bushbots can be more dangerous b/c PC/liberal rhetoric can be used to disguise them as something "progressive" (and a female conservative on the Supreme Court could NEVER be progressive).

10. I was noticing this earlier
(on Sandra Day O'Connor)

"She continued at the Stanford Law School for her LL.B., graduating in two years (instead of the customary three), serving on the Stanford Law Review, and graduating toward the top of a class <2> of 102 of which William Rehnquist was valedictorian. (O'Connor actually dated Rehnquist for a period of time. <3>)

In spite of her accomplishments at law school, no law firm in California was willing to hire her as a lawyer, although one firm did offer her a position as a legal secretary."

...and it reminded me - how difficult it has been for women to get a good job - let alone get to the Supreme Court. So yeah - I would like to see the court reflect the population - whether it be gender, race, and/or ideology.

9. Suddenly, they're interested in Affirmative Action
They miss the point of AA though. Qualified minorities. Not just minorities, but QUALIFIED minorities.
